PIC24EP64GP202-E/SO Visão geral

The Microchip PIC24EP64GP202-E/SO is a 16-bit microcontroller from the PIC24EP family, featuring a 60 MIPS (70 MHz) dsPIC/PIC24E core with 64 KB Flash program memory and 8 KB RAM, housed in a 28-pin SOIC (SO) wide-body package. It is qualified to the AEC-Q100 automotive standard, runs from a single 3.0 V to 3.6 V supply, and offers 21 general-purpose I/O pins plus enhanced analog peripherals including operational amplifiers, a Charge Time Measurement Unit (CTMU), and a Peripheral Trigger Generator (PTG).

A PIC microcontroller (Programmable Interface Controller) is a Harvard-architecture RISC MCU widely used for embedded control, combining a CPU, Flash program memory, SRAM, EEPROM, timers, ADC, and digital I/O on a single die. Within Microchip's hierarchy it sits in the PIC24E general-purpose family - the "EP" suffix denotes Enhanced Performance with op-amps and CTMU, and "GP" denotes General Purpose variants rather than motor-control or USB-focused siblings.

Key features include a 16-channel 10-bit ADC capable of 500 ksps, a 12-channel 16-bit PWM/timer/capture module, op-amp peripherals, a USB 2.0 full-speed On-The-Go interface, and multiple serial interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C). The 70 MIPS execution throughput and 16-bit data path enable efficient DSP-style math (single-cycle MAC) for sensor fusion and digital filtering tasks.

Architecturally the PIC24EP64GP202 uses a 24-bit instruction word with 16-bit data paths and dual-bus Harvard design, giving deterministic interrupt latency and predictable code execution. The integrated op-amps, CTMU, and PTG offload analog signal-chain work from the CPU and let peripherals trigger each other without software overhead.

Typical applications include automotive body and sensor nodes, industrial motor-control auxiliary boards, sensor-conditioning front ends, USB device firmware, and portable instrumentation. The combination of op-amps + ADC + USB is unusually strong for signal-chain firmware development.

When designing with this part, note that the E suffix indicates -40C to +125C automotive temperature grade and the SO package is 7.50 mm wide-body SOIC. Apply proper decoupling, follow Microchip's recommended layout for the USB DP/DM lines, and configure unused pins as outputs per the datasheet to minimize current draw.

Notas de projeto

Place a 10 uF bulk capacitor and a 0.1 uF ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to the VDD and VSS pins. The PIC24EP64GP202 draws peak transient currents of up to 50 mA during USB bus activity; inadequate decoupling will cause VDD droop and reset events. According to the family datasheet, a 10 uF + 0.1 uF pair reduces switching noise by 30-40 dB and supports the USB full-speed eye-diagram mask.

Route the USB D+ and D- traces as a 90 ohm differential pair with maximum length 50 mm and keep them away from switching nodes. Place the ESD protection diode within 5 mm of the USB connector pins; the USBLC6-2SC6 is a recommended low-capacitance part. The 28-SOIC package has a lead pitch of 1.27 mm - leave adequate clearance between traces for automotive conformal coating rework.

Do not leave unused I/O pins floating; configure them as outputs or inputs with the internal weak pull-up enabled per the family datasheet to minimize current draw. The -E grade part supports -40C to +125C, but USB bus-powered designs must derate the maximum VBUS load by at least 20 percent for thermal headroom in enclosed automotive enclosures. Use the in-circuit serial programming (ICSP) pins for firmware updates, not the application pins, to avoid bootloader conflicts.

Estimated: at 60 MIPS CPU activity with USB enumeration active, the 28-SOIC package dissipates approximately 0.3 W. With theta_JA of 75 C/W (typical for SOIC-28 on a 4-layer JEDEC test board), junction temperature rises about 22 C above ambient. At +85 C ambient this keeps Tj below the +125 C limit with margin; at +125 C ambient the part operates at its thermal ceiling so clock throttling or sleep-mode use is recommended for sustained operation.
