TPS54360DDAR Visão geral
A buck converter is a switching regulator that efficiently reduces a higher DC voltage to a lower one using a switching element, inductor, and catch diode. Within the power-management IC hierarchy (DC-DC converter -> switching regulator -> power management IC), buck converters dominate point-of-load and wide-input designs because switching achieves far higher efficiency than linear regulators, especially at large input-to-output voltage differences.
Key features include 3.5A continuous output current with a 4.5A minimum peak inductor current limit, current-mode control for fast transient response and simple loop compensation, and Eco-mode pulse-skipping that maintains high efficiency at light loads. The adjustable switching frequency of 100kHz to 2.5MHz lets designers trade efficiency against inductor and capacitor size. The integrated 92mOhm high-side MOSFET minimizes conduction loss and external component count.
Architecturally, current-mode control provides inherent feed-forward of input-voltage variations and simplifies compensation compared with voltage-mode control. Protections include thermal shutdown, overcurrent protection, and an enable pin with precision threshold for power sequencing and programmable undervoltage lockout.
Typical applications include 24V industrial bus power supplies, 12V automotive systems handling load-dump transients, telecom and networking equipment, and point-of-load converters for industrial and automotive electronics.
Design tip: ensure a solid ground plane with thermal vias under the PowerPAD, place the BOOT capacitor and input/output capacitors close to the IC, and choose the switching frequency to balance efficiency versus solution size. Pricing as of 2026-08-29 starts around $0.50 at volume (LCSC).

Aplicações típicas
TPS54360DDAR é adequado para 6 aplicaçãos: 24V Industrial Bus Power Supply, 12V Automotive Systems, Telecom and Networking Equipment, Point-of-Load Conversion, Motor Drive and Actuator Supplies, LED Lighting Power.
24V Industrial Bus Power Supply
The TPS54360DDAR is well suited to 24V industrial bus rails because its 60V maximum input provides roughly 2.5x headroom above nominal 24V, absorbing surges without external protection. Operating as a first-stage buck, it steps the bus down to 5V or 3.3V at up to 3.5A with the integrated 92mOhm MOSFET. Current-mode control gives fast transient response for PLC and sensor loads, while Eco-mode keeps standby efficiency high in always-on factory equipment.
Recomendado
12V Automotive Systems
Automotive 12V rails see load-dump transients that can exceed 40V; the TPS54360DDAR's 60V input rating directly addresses this without expensive front-end clamping in many designs. The -40C to +125C ambient range covers under-hood and cabin electronics, and the precision-threshold EN pin enables programmable UVLO for cold-crank conditions. For production automotive programs, select the AEC-Q100 qualified TPS54360QDDARQ1 variant of the same converter.
Recomendado
Telecom and Networking Equipment
Telecom infrastructure typically distributes 48V power, and the TPS54360DDAR's 60V input allows direct regulation from 48V rails to intermediate or point-of-load voltages up to 3.5A. The 100kHz to 2.5MHz adjustable frequency lets designers choose lower frequency for efficiency on long-duty boards or higher frequency for compact magnetics in line cards. Eco-mode pulse skipping preserves efficiency during light-traffic standby periods common in network equipment.
Recomendado
Point-of-Load Conversion
As a point-of-load converter, the TPS54360DDAR uses current-mode control for tight transient regulation feeding DSPs, FPGAs, and MCUs from an intermediate 12V or 24V rail. The 0.8V reference supports modern low-voltage cores down to 0.8V, and the SS/TR pin enables controlled startup and voltage tracking in multi-rail power sequencing schemes. The PowerPAD package provides low thermal impedance for compact POL layouts on dense boards.
Recomendado
Motor Drive and Actuator Supplies
The TPS54360DDAR supplies gate-driver and controller rails in motor drive systems from 24V or 48V buses. Its 4.5A minimum peak current limit rides through inrush from capacitive loads and actuator transients, while cycle-by-cycle overcurrent and thermal shutdown protect against stall conditions. Pairing it with gate drivers on the same PCB simplifies power-tree design and keeps the 3.5A continuous rating available for logic and sensing circuitry.

LED Lighting Power
In industrial and commercial LED lighting, the TPS54360DDAR regulates LED string current from wide-input 24V-48V supplies. The adjustable 100kHz-2.5MHz frequency supports designs avoiding visible-light PWM artifacts, and high full-load efficiency from the 92mOhm integrated MOSFET reduces heat inside sealed luminaires. Thermal shutdown protects driver electronics when ambient temperatures rise inside enclosed fixtures, improving long-term reliability of the lighting system.

Notas de projeto
The PowerPAD on the underside of the HSOIC (DDA) package is the primary thermal path and must be soldered to a copper ground plane. At 24V input and 5V/3.5A output, power dissipation from switching and conduction losses can reach several watts; use an array of thermal vias (at least 4-6, 0.3mm diameter) connecting the PowerPAD to internal ground planes and provide at least 1 square inch of copper on the top layer. Verify junction temperature stays below 125C at worst-case ambient per TI datasheet thermal design guidance.
Keep the BOOT capacitor (0.1uF ceramic) directly across BOOT and PH pins with minimum trace length. Place the input capacitor (10uF ceramic plus bulk) close to VIN and GND to minimize the hot loop area, which drives EMI and input ringing. Route the VSENSE feedback trace away from the PH switch node to prevent noise pickup; use a ground-referenced sense trace. Provide a low-inductance catch path from PH through the inductor and output capacitor back to the input capacitor ground.
Use the EN pin resistor divider to program undervoltage lockout above the minimum operating input, preventing start-up glitches on drooping supplies. Set the soft-start time via SS/TR capacitance to control inrush into large output capacitors. When choosing switching frequency in the 100kHz-2.5MHz range, remember higher frequency reduces inductor size but increases switching losses - at 60V input, moderate frequencies around 400-600kHz typically give the best efficiency-to-size trade-off per TI datasheet application section.
