PIC16LF1716-I/ML Обзор
An 8-bit PIC microcontroller (MCU) is a low-cost, low-power RISC processor built on a Harvard architecture with separate program and data buses. PIC MCUs occupy the entry-level and mid-range node in the embedded controller taxonomy: 8-bit MCU -> microcontroller -> embedded processor -> semiconductor IC. The PIC16F/LF1716 family sits at the upper end of Microchip's mid-range XLP line, adding on-chip op-amps, 12-bit ADC with computation, 10-bit DAC, Core Independent Peripherals (CLC, COG, NCO, ZCD), and eXtreme Low Power sleep currents below 60 nA typical.
Key features of the PIC16LF1716 include 14KB self-programmable Flash, 1KB RAM, 256 bytes EEPROM, 17-channel 12-bit ADC, two 10-bit DACs, two operational amplifiers, two comparators, four 16-bit timers, one EUSART, two MSSP (I2C/SPI), CLC, COG, NCO, Zero-Cross Detect, and an Integrated Temperature Indicator. The 'LF' prefix denotes the 1.8V-3.6V wide-voltage variant versus the standard 'F' part rated 2.3V-5.5V, making the LF ideal for battery-powered designs that must operate from a depleted Li-coin cell down to 1.8V.
The architecture uses a 14-bit instruction word and 8-bit data path, with a hardware stack and 32-level deep interrupt nesting. The 32 MHz internal oscillator eliminates an external crystal in cost-sensitive designs, while the nanoWatt XLP sleep modes and peripheral module disable logic let active current drop below 30 uA/MHz and sleep current below 60 nA. Intelligent Analog peripherals (op-amps, 12-bit ADC, 10-bit DAC, comparators) are routed through the Peripheral Pin Select (PPS) system for flexible signal conditioning.
Typical applications include IoT sensor nodes, battery-powered thermostats, low-cost sensor conditioning, LED lighting controllers, e-metering, white goods interfaces, wearables, and remote controls. The integrated op-amps and 12-bit ADC make it well suited for direct interfacing with analog sensors (thermistors, photodiodes, strain gauges) without external signal chain components.
When designing with this device, note that the 28-QFN package has an exposed thermal pad that must be soldered to the PCB ground plane for proper electrical and thermal performance. The PPS peripheral mapping allows remapping of digital peripherals to most I/O pins, simplifying PCB layout. Program development uses Microchip's free MPLAB X IDE with XC8 compiler and the MPLAB Code Configurator for peripheral initialization.

Заметки по проектированию
The 28-QFN (6x6) package has an exposed thermal pad that MUST be soldered to the PCB ground plane for proper electrical performance and thermal dissipation. Use an array of thermal vias (8 to 16 vias, 0.3 mm drill) under the pad connecting to the inner ground plane. Decouple VDD (pin 7) with a 100 nF X7R ceramic capacitor placed within 3 mm of the pin, plus a 10 uF bulk capacitor at the board supply input. Pin 4 (VCAP) requires a 1 uF to 10 uF low-ESR ceramic capacitor for the internal voltage regulator.
MCLR pin (pin 24, RE3/MCLR/VPP) can be configured as input-only I/O when MCLR is disabled in configuration bits. If your design does not use external reset, tie MCLR to VDD through a 10 kohm pull-up and a 100 nF decoupling capacitor. A floating MCLR will cause intermittent reset and erratic behavior. When using ICSP, the MCLR/VPP line is driven to ~8.5 V during programming; ensure external circuitry does not sink more than 5 mA from this pin during programming.
Estimated: at 32 MHz and VDD = 3.3 V, active current is approximately 6 mA (188 uA/MHz). For battery-life calculation, the dominant power-down mode is sleep with WDT disabled and all peripherals off, which gives ~60 nA typical. Peripheral module disable (PMD) registers can further reduce active current by 1-2 mA when unused peripherals are disabled. The ADC and op-amps each draw approximately 250-500 uA when active and should be turned off between conversions in duty-cycled sensor applications.
The PIC16LF1716 I/O pins have limited source/sink current (~25 mA per pin, 200 mA total package) and 3.6 V maximum VDD. For driving LEDs or relays, use external MOSFET drivers rather than direct GPIO drive. The 12-bit ADC requires a low-impedance input source (<10 kohm) for accurate conversions above 200 ksps; add an external op-amp buffer if the source impedance exceeds this limit. The MSSP I2C pins (RC3/RC4) require 4.7 kohm pull-ups to VDD for 100 kHz and 2.2 kohm for 400 kHz operation.
