The SST-PFB3-PCI draws power from the PCI host bus (5 V and optionally 3.3 V). On PCI revision 2.1 motherboards where the 3.3 V rail is optional, the card may not enumerate or may behave unpredictably. Confirm full PCI 2.2 (or later) compliance of the host motherboard before deployment, or migrate to the SST-PB3-PCI-e PCIe variant on newer systems that no longer expose PCI slots.
Use shielded PROFIBUS DP cable with a 9-pin D-sub connector (DB9) terminated at both ends with the standard PROFIBUS terminator (390 ohm between data+ and 5 V, 220 ohm between data- and GND on each end). Maintain a minimum 1 m stub length to the nearest device, and route the PROFIBUS cable at least 20 cm away from VFD power cables to minimize EMI coupling.
The SST-PFB3-PCI is NOT a drop-in replacement for the legacy SST 5136-PFB-PCI - Molex explicitly states backward compatibility is maintained only where possible. When migrating from a 5136-PFB-PCI to a SST-PFB3-PCI, plan for firmware reflash, GSD-file updates, and configuration migration. Do not assume same-slot hot-swap compatibility; the firmware boot sequence differs.
Auto-detect baud rate from 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps, but the actual segment baud rate is locked to the slowest device during configuration. For long cable runs near 12 Mbps, verify signal integrity with a PROFIBUS cable tester and use only IEC 61158 Type-A PROFIBUS cable (characteristic impedance 150 ohm). Degraded cables may pass at 1.5 Mbps but fail at 12 Mbps under EMC events.
