DSPIC30F6013AT-30I/PF Übersicht

The Microchip Technology DSPIC30F6013AT-30I/PF is a high-performance 16-bit Digital Signal Controller (DSC) combining a PIC MCU core with a DSP engine, delivering 30 MIPS at 30 MHz from a 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply, and packaged in an 80-pin TQFP (14x14 mm). It integrates 132 KB of Flash program memory (44K x 24) and is built on Microchip's dsPIC30F Harvard RISC core, giving the automotive sector a deterministic signal-processing platform.

A Digital Signal Controller (DSC) is a hybrid class of microcontroller that fuses a traditional MCU control core with a single-cycle DSP MAC engine on a single die. In the device taxonomy, this places the DSPIC30F6013AT-30I/PF in the hierarchy: DSC -> DSP/MCU hybrid -> 16-bit microcontroller -> embedded MCU. This category is purpose-built for real-time closed-loop control and high-bandwidth signal processing, where general-purpose MCUs lack DSP throughput and stand-alone DSPs lack peripheral integration.

Key features include 30 MIPS performance from a 30 MHz oscillator, a 12-bit ADC with up to 16 channels, two UART/SPI/I2C modules, two CAN modules, and two 16-bit timer/counters. The device also provides 60 digital I/O lines, PWM modules with dedicated time bases, and an on-chip Flash self-programming bootloader. The wide 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply range simplifies integration into 5 V analog signal chains.

The DSP engine provides a single-cycle 16-bit x 16-bit MAC plus a 40-bit accumulator with dual operand fetch-back, enabling efficient FIR/IIR filtering, FFT butterfly computations, and closed-loop control loops. The modified Harvard architecture keeps program and data memory on separate buses, removing fetch bottlenecks that throttle von Neumann MCUs during DSP workloads.

Typical applications include sensor-less BLDC/PMSM motor drives, automotive sensor fusion (with two CAN interfaces), industrial UPS and inverter control, and high-performance audio codecs with parametric equalization. The 80-pin TQFP and 5 V I/O make it well-suited for industrial PLC modules and motor-control inverter boards.

When designing with this part, place 100 nF decoupling capacitors as close as possible to every VDD/VSS pair and ensure the MCLR reset circuit uses the recommended RC network. The 'I' suffix indicates the industrial -40 C to +85 C operating range and the 'A' denotes Flash revision 2 silicon; this 'T' tape-and-reel variant is the surface-mount packaging form of the original -30I/PF die.

Auswahlhilfe

Choose the DSPIC30F6013AT-30I/PF when your design needs dual CAN 2.0B interfaces, 5 V-tolerant digital I/O, deterministic 5-cycle interrupt response, and a 30 MIPS DSP engine in an 80-pin TQFP footprint. For cost-sensitive designs that can sacrifice one CAN channel, the DSPIC30F6012AT-30I/PF in the same 80-TQFP package offers a 144 KB Flash and slightly reduced CAN set at lower cost. For 30 MIPS with a non-automotive temperature grade, the tray packaging variant DSPIC30F6013A-30I/PF is the same die with no 'T' suffix. For extended -40 C to +125 C operation, drop in the DSPIC30F6013AT-20E/PF (footprint identical, but speed drops to 20 MIPS). All four parts share the same 80-TQFP 14x14 mm footprint, enabling PCB layout reuse across product variants. For raw MHz and 32-bit math, consider a Cortex-M4 - but expect to add level shifters and accept higher interrupt jitter.

  • 30 MIPS performance at 30 MHz (vs. DSPIC30F6013AT-20E/PF)
  • 5 V-tolerant digital I/O on 60 pins (vs. Typical Cortex-M4 MCU)

Designhinweise

Place 100 nF ceramic decoupling capacitors on every AVDD/AVSS and VDD/VSS pair, located within 5 mm of each pin pair. Add a 10 uF bulk tantalum or ceramic capacitor at the device's main VDD entry. The dsPIC30F6013A's analog and digital supplies should be tied to a common 5 V rail but routed with separate traces; a ferrite bead between AVDD and VDD reduces ADC switching noise coupling.

Do not leave the MCLR pin floating; an external 10 kohm pull-up to VDD and a 100 nF to ground is the recommended Microchip reference circuit. Without the pull-up, the device may fail to start or experience spurious resets in noisy motor-control environments. Avoid using the EMUD/EMUC pins as GPIO in production - they are reserved for in-circuit debugging and may interfere with programming tools.

Estimated: at full 30 MIPS operation with all peripherals active and typical 5 V I/O switching, the DSPIC30F6013AT-30I/PF draws approximately 80 mA (0.4 W). On the 80-TQFP package with theta_JA of approximately 50 C/W, the junction rises about 20 C above ambient at 25 C, well within the +85 C industrial limit. For sealed enclosures without airflow, de-rate by 30% or upgrade to the -30I/PT package on a 2 oz copper pour.

Route the crystal traces (OSC1/OSC2) as short as possible with the load capacitors placed within 5 mm of the IC and a ground guard ring around the oscillator cell. Keep ADC analog input traces away from PWM and digital switching lines; cross at right angles if needed. Place the CAN bus termination resistors (120 ohm) within 5 mm of the CANH/CANL pins to minimize stub length and ringing.
