MK60DX256VLL10 Übersicht

The NXP MK60DX256VLL10 is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller from the Kinetis K60 family, featuring a 100 MHz core with DSP instructions, 256 KB of flash, and 64 KB of SRAM, housed in a 100-pin LQFP package measuring 14 x 14 mm. The device integrates a USB 2.0 OTG controller, an Ethernet MAC, and advanced serial communication peripherals, making it a strong fit for connected embedded applications.

An ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller is a 32-bit RISC processor core with DSP extensions and (optionally) a single-precision floating-point unit, designed for deterministic real-time embedded workloads. The K60 belongs to NXP's Kinetis family of mixed-signal MCUs, which sit in the broader taxonomy of ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers -> 32-bit microcontrollers -> microcontrollers (MCUs) -> integrated circuits (ICs) -> semiconductors. K60 sub-family parts add connectivity features such as Ethernet and USB OTG on top of the baseline Kinetis K-series analog and timer integration.

Key features of the MK60DX256VLL10 include an operating voltage range of 1.71 V to 3.6 V, ambient operating temperature from -40 C to +105 C, 66 general-purpose I/O pins, multiple low-power modes (Wait, Stop, VLLS), an integrated 16-bit ADC, and hardware cryptographic acceleration. The 100 MHz core with DSP instructions delivers 1.25 Dhrystone MIPS per MHz, giving ~125 DMIPS of integer compute. The combination of USB OTG, Ethernet, CAN, and FlexBus allows the device to act as a protocol bridge or as a networked sensor node.

Typical applications include industrial Ethernet gateways, USB peripherals and device controllers, point-of-sale terminals, building automation controllers, and smart energy metering. The wide operating voltage and 105 C ambient rating also suit factory automation nodes that must survive warm enclosures.

Designers should budget for an external 32 kHz RTC crystal and follow the reference PCB layout from the NXP K60 reference manual to ensure USB and Ethernet signal integrity. The internal DC-DC converter pin must be left unconnected on the LQFP-100 variant; on internal regulator parts, follow the recommended bulk + decoupling network exactly.

This page synthesizes distributor pricing, drop-in same-package alternatives, and practical design notes drawn from the NXP K60 reference manual - information that the bare datasheet does not surface in one place.

🏭

Industrial Ethernet Gateway

The MK60DX256VLL10's integrated 10/100 Ethernet MAC and 100 MHz Cortex-M4 with DSP make it a strong fit for industrial Ethernet gateways that must terminate Modbus TCP or PROFINET traffic while running a real-time control loop. The 256 KB flash accommodates a lightweight TCP/IP stack plus application logic without external memory, and the 64 KB SRAM holds packet buffers alongside control variables. Designers typically pair the K60 with an external PHY (such as a Microchip KSZ8081) and a small SPI flash for firmware updates; the LQFP-100 footprint keeps the BOM compact and the layout two-layer-friendly for cost-sensitive nodes.

🔌

USB 2.0 OTG Peripheral and Device Controller

The K60DX256VLL10 integrates a USB 2.0 OTG controller that supports both host and device roles, ideal for USB peripherals that occasionally act as embedded hosts. The 100 MHz Cortex-M4 plus DSP instructions handles USB stack overhead plus device-side DSP (audio, sensor pre-processing) within the 256 KB budget. With 66 GPIO and 100-LQFP pinout, the part fits industrial USB I/O modules, USB-to-UART bridges, and USB data-loggers where cable length, ESD immunity, and a single-3.3 V supply simplify the certification path.

🏭

Building Automation Controller

Building automation controllers (HVAC, lighting, blind/shade, and BACnet nodes) benefit from the MK60DX256VLL10's combination of Ethernet for BACnet/IP, CAN for sub-network aggregation, and a wide 1.71 V-3.6 V supply tolerant of PoE-derived rails. The 100 MHz core runs BACnet scheduling plus PID control loops, while 256 KB flash supports a full BACnet stack with room for future expansion. The -40 C to +105 C ambient rating is critical for plenum-mounted controllers where ambient temperatures routinely exceed 70 C in unconditioned spaces.

⚡

Smart Energy Metering Node

Smart energy meters need accurate metrology computation plus secure, connected communication - both of which the MK60DX256VLL10 supports through its DSP-capable 100 MHz core and integrated Ethernet. The 16-bit ADC on the K60 measures voltage and current with metrology-grade accuracy when paired with anti-aliasing filters and burden resistors. With 256 KB flash, designers can fit a TLS-enabled communication stack plus a real-time metrology task; the LQFP-100 footprint is also friendly to conformal-coated meter PCBs and to through-hole-friendly rework in field service.

💳

Point-of-Sale Terminal Controller

The MK60DX256VLL10 covers these with its 100 MHz Cortex-M4 (running a small RTOS), USB OTG controller for scanner/printers, and Ethernet MAC for store-LAN sync. The 256 KB flash is sufficient for a stripped-down embedded Linux alternative - a ThreadX or FreeRTOS plus application code fits comfortably. The 100-LQFP package also simplifies the EMI/ESD shielding layout typical of PCI-PTS certified terminals.

🏭

Factory Automation Sensor Node

Industrial sensor nodes - temperature, vibration, flow, and process monitors - benefit from the MK60DX256VLL10's DSP extensions for on-sensor FFT analysis (vibration spectrum, motor current signature) plus Ethernet or CAN for uplink. The 100 MHz core runs real-time CMSIS-DSP libraries (256-point FFT in well under 1 ms), 256 KB stores the spectra plus a TLS client, and the 1.71 V-3.6 V supply tolerates 24 V industrial rails after a switching pre-regulator. The 105 C ambient rating covers uncooled cabinet deployments; the LQFP-100 is robust to conformal coating and rework on long-life industrial PCBs.

Designhinweise

The MK60DX256VLL10 has two separate supply domains: VDD/VDDA (1.71 V to 3.6 V core supply) and VREGIN/VOUT33 (USB 3.3 V LDO). Power both rails even if USB is unused - leave VREGIN at VDD, and place 1 uF + 100 nF ceramic decoupling as close to pins 79-80 as practical. Estimated: a 100 MHz core running peripherals draws 35-50 mA total; using LQFP-100 with no PCB copper pours, theta_JA is ~50 C/W, so a +85 C ambient keeps the junction below +110 C.

Place the 12 MHz system crystal within 12 mm of pins 85-86 with a continuous ground ring around the crystal traces. The 32 kHz RTC crystal at pins 83-84 should be similarly guarded and routed on the top side away from switching nodes. The USB DP/DM pair (pins 77-78) must be routed as a 90 ohm differential pair with no stubs; place the 27 series resistor and ESD array within 4 mm of the connector.

Two common K60 bring-up pitfalls: (1) leaving the JTAG pins (PTA0-PTA3, PTA4/NMI, PTA5/RESET) floating in firmware - configure internal pull-ups in the SIM and PORT modules before reset release; (2) forgetting to enable the clock to a peripheral before accessing its registers, which silently reads as zero. Also note that the 'LL' temperature grade in the part number ('VLL10') means -40 C to +105 C ambient - do not substitute 'VLQ' parts with -40 C to +85 C if the design targets industrial thermal envelopes.

The 100-LQFP package has no exposed thermal pad, so heat must dissipate through the leads. For continuous operation above 50 MHz core clock with both Ethernet and USB active, ensure at least 1 sq inch of 2 oz copper connected to VSS pins 9, 39, 75, 81, 87. Estimated: at 100 MHz core + Ethernet + USB, typical die dissipation is ~120 mW; the resulting 6 C rise above ambient in still air is within the 105 C ambient ceiling.

The Ethernet MAC outputs MII/RMII signals at up to 50 MHz on the upper GPIO ports - these traces must be length matched to within 50 mils of each other and reference a solid ground plane. The K60 reference manual's 'Ethernet PHY interface layout' section gives specific routing rules; violating them can pass functional tests but fail EMC conformance.
