Typische Anwendungen
PIC18LF55K42-I/MV ist geeignet für 7 Anwendungs: Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Nodes, Consumer Appliance Control, Low-Power Handheld Instrumentation, White Goods and HVAC Fan Control, Smart Home Sensor Hubs, Industrial Control Front-Ends, Touch-Button and LED Lighting Controls.
Battery-Powered IoT Sensor Nodes
The PIC18LF55K42-I/MV is purpose-built for IoT sensor nodes that spend most of their life asleep. Its XLP nanoWatt technology delivers deep-sleep currents below 100 nA, and the 1.8 V minimum VDD pairs naturally with single-cell Li-ion or coin-cell batteries without a boost regulator. The 12-bit ADC with computation (ADC2) and DMA let the part wake, sample a sensor, average the result and return to sleep without waking the CPU - extending battery life by orders of magnitude versus polled designs.
Empfohlen
Consumer Appliance Control
The PIC18LF55K42-I/MV suits consumer appliances such as coffee makers, washing machines and air purifiers, where 8-bit deterministic control is more important than raw compute. The vectored interrupts, 8/16-bit timers, PWM, and complementary waveform generator (CWG) support triac and motor control, while the 12-bit ADC reads temperature, pressure or flow sensors in real time. The 44 I/O pins leave headroom for keypads, displays and indicator LEDs on the same MCU.
Empfohlen
Low-Power Handheld Instrumentation
Handheld meters, thermometers and multimeters benefit from the PIC18LF55K42-I/MV's small 6x6 mm UQFN footprint and low active current. The 12-bit ADC with computation and the on-chip DAC support analog signal conditioning for bridge, RTD or thermocouple sensors. The 32 KB Flash fits USB-CDC or UART command sets, while 2 KB SRAM handles display buffering and 256 B EEPROM stores calibration constants in-circuit.

White Goods and HVAC Fan Control
The PIC18LF55K42-I/MV drives brushless-DC and AC induction fan stages with its PWM, CWG and 12-bit ADC. Its 1.8-3.6 V VDD lets designers run the MCU directly from a regulated 3.3 V rail derived from the HVAC's 24 V supply. The 44 I/O support keypad input, triac firing, tachometer feedback and fault LEDs without external logic.

Smart Home Sensor Hubs
Smart-home bridges and PIR/zigbee sensor hubs use the PIC18LF55K42-I/MV as a low-power supervisor that wakes a higher-tier radio on activity. The DMA and 12-bit ADC2 with computation accelerate motion, light and temperature sensing, while the XLP sleep modes extend battery life to multi-year ranges. The UQFN EP package fits behind the PIR lens or on a coin-cell carrier board.

Industrial Control Front-Ends
Industrial PLC-style front-ends and process controllers deploy the PIC18LF55K42-I/MV to read 4-20 mA loops, switch relays and drive optocouplers. The vectored-interrupt controller and DMA keep deterministic response times for safety loops, and the -40 C to +85 C industrial rating meets the temperature envelope of factory-floor cabinets. The 32 KB Flash stores ladder logic or state-machine code with margin.

Touch-Button and LED Lighting Controls
Lighting controllers and capacitive touch-button panels leverage the PIC18LF55K42-I/MV's 12-bit ADC with computation, on-chip comparators and PWM channels. The DMA offloads LED dimming updates from the CPU, while the CWG and PWM drive MOSFETs for high-current LED strings. With 1.8 V minimum VDD the part can be powered from a small switching supply or USB bus.

Wichtigste Unterscheidungsmerkmale
- Wide 1.8-3.6 V supply range with XLP nanoWatt sleep (vs. PIC18F55K42-I/MV)
- 44 I/O on the smallest 6x6 mm UQFN footprint (vs. PIC18LF47K42-I/MV)
- Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) + DMA offload the CPU (vs. PIC18LF25K83-I/ML)
Designhinweise
Place a 100 nF decoupling capacitor as close as possible to each VDD/VSS pair (pins 10/9, 28/27 and 38/37), and a bulk 1-10 uF near the supply pin cluster. The PIC18LF55K42-I/MV draws as little as 100 nA in deep-sleep, so leakage through the bulk capacitor's dielectric can dominate idle current - prefer X7R/X5R ceramics with low DC bias derating rather than Y5V.
The 48-pin UQFN EP package exposes a thermal pad on the underside; solder it to a continuous ground pour with at least four thermal vias to the inner ground plane. Without this, junction-to-ambient thermal resistance degrades significantly, especially at 64 MHz with all peripherals active. Keep the junction rise well under 30 C above ambient to stay within the -40 C to +85 C industrial rating.
Route the ICSP pins (RB6 = PGC, RB7 = PGD) directly to a 2x5 or 1x6 header for in-circuit programming. Keep the traces short and add a 10 kohm pull-up on MCLR (pin 43). Decouple MCLR with a 100 nF capacitor close to the pin to avoid spurious resets during ESD events.
The PIC18LF55K42-I/MV cannot exceed 3.6 V on any pin - if a 5 V peripheral is on the board, use the PIC18F55K42-I/MV (5 V-rated) instead. Also note that the analog input range on the 12-bit ADC shares the 0-VDD range; for rail-to-rail sensing of signals above VDD or below VSS, use the on-chip DAC and comparator path instead.
Keep analog traces (ADC inputs, DAC output, comparator reference) short and away from PWM/CWG outputs and clock lines. The K42 family is robust to mixed-signal routing, but a 10-20 mil ground trace between analog and digital sections plus a clean ground pour below the ADC reduces conversion noise. The exposed pad (EP) must be a single net (GND) for thermal and EMI reasons.
Compliance-Informationen
RoHS compliant per Microchip product page. The 'I' industrial temperature suffix (-40 C to +85 C) is non-automotive; AEC-Q100 variants are not provided; choose automotive-qualified PIC18 parts if required.
