PIC18F26Q10-I/SS Descripción general

The Microchip Technology PIC18F26Q10-I/SS is an 8-bit PIC® XLP™ microcontroller with 64KB Flash, 4KB RAM, and 256B EEPROM, operating up to 64MHz core clock in a 28-pin SSOP package. The device integrates intelligent analog peripherals including a 10-bit ADC with computation (ADC2), a 5-/10-bit DAC, configurable logic cells (CLCs), Complementary Waveform Generator (CWG), and hardware limit timer (HLT), all in a 5V-capable architecture with enhanced noise immunity.

An 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) is a compact single-chip computer that integrates a CPU, program memory (Flash), data memory (RAM), non-volatile EEPROM, and digital/analog peripherals onto one silicon die. Within the broader taxonomy, the PIC18F26Q10 belongs to the 8-bit MCU category, which itself sits inside microcontrollers, which fall under integrated circuits (ICs), and ultimately semiconductors. The 'F' prefix denotes Flash program memory; 'Q10' identifies the family introduced for robust real-time control and sensor-node applications. Compared with 32-bit ARM Cortex-M MCUs, 8-bit PIC18 devices typically trade raw computational throughput for deterministic latency, lower power consumption, and lower BOM cost.

Key features include 64KB self-programmable Flash with high-endurance program memory, 4KB SRAM, 256 bytes EEPROM, 25 general-purpose I/O pins, and a peripheral set encompassing two USART, two SPI, two I²C, 10-bit ADC2, 5-/10-bit DAC, CLC, CWG, HLT, Windowed WWDT, and CRC/SCAN. The 'I' suffix denotes the industrial -40°C to +85°C operating range, and the 5V-tolerant I/O architecture permits direct interfacing with legacy 5V logic.

The device uses a Harvard RISC architecture with a 16-bit instruction word and an 8-bit data path, executing most instructions in a single cycle for a peak throughput of 16 MIPS at 64MHz. Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) such as CLC and CWG can implement custom combinational/sequential logic and complementary PWM without CPU intervention, offloading deterministic tasks and reducing firmware complexity.

Typical applications include industrial control nodes, sensor signal conditioning, touch and proximity interfaces, automotive LIN slave nodes, IoT edge devices, and consumer appliances. Designers should leverage the 5V-tolerant I/O for robust interfaces and use ADC2 with computation for sensor averaging and oversampling in low-power sensor hubs.

Power the PIC18F26Q10-I/SS from a regulated 3.3 V or 5 V rail with a 100 nF decoupling capacitor placed within 5 mm of the VDD pin and a bulk 10 uF tantalum or ceramic capacitor on the same rail. The 1.8-5.5 V supply range lets you run the device directly from a single-cell Li-ion battery (with an LDO) or a 5 V USB rail; use MCP1700 for a low-quiescent LDO if total system Iq must stay below 1.6 uA in sleep.

Place the 28-SSOP footprint on a 0.65 mm pitch with 0.4 mm wide traces and 0.2 mm solder mask sliver. Reserve a ground pour under the device and stitch it with multiple vias around the SSOP body. Keep the ICSP programming header (RB6/RB7/MCLR/VDD/VSS) accessible on the board edge so that firmware can be updated in production without disassembling the enclosure.

Do not assume RA5 is a normal GPIO by default - on the PIC18F26Q10-I/SS it is multiplexed with MCLR# and is input-only when MCLR is enabled. Use the CONFIG5L register to disable MCLR on RA5 if you need a normal digital I/O on that pin. Estimated: enabling MCLR adds ~50 uA of quiescent draw, which matters in battery-powered sensor nodes.

When using the 64 MHz internal HFINTOSC, place a 10 nF capacitor on the VDD pin and keep the analog traces (RA0-RA4) short and guarded to avoid ADC noise pickup. The 10-bit ADC2 with computation provides built-in oversampling; enable hardware averaging in the ADCON2 register to push effective resolution to ~12 bits at the cost of conversion rate.
