ISO6442-Q1 Présentation
A digital isolator is an integrated circuit that transmits digital signals across a galvanic isolation barrier, blocking high voltages, ground loops, and common-mode noise while passing logic data. Within the interface-IC hierarchy, digital isolators sit between a controller and noisy or high-voltage circuitry, complementing isolated transceivers, gate drivers, and isolated ADCs in systems requiring safety and signal integrity.
Key features include the 250 kV/us CMTI, which keeps outputs correct in high-dv/dt environments such as motor-drive inverter legs, and the 150 Mbps data rate supporting fast SPI and parallel logic links. Enable pins allow each direction to be tri-stated for power management. In the event of input power or signal loss, default outputs are high; the ISO6442F-Q1 variant defaults low, giving designers a choice of fail-safe behavior.
The ISO6442-Q1 uses TI's proven capacitive isolation technology, delivering robust EMC performance and long-term barrier reliability. The ISO644x-Q1 family (ISO6440/6441/6442 and F variants) shares package options including the DW-16 wide SOIC, DFP-16 wide SSOP, and DBQ-16 SSOP; a Functional Safety FIT rate and pin FMA document (SFFSB42) is available.
Typical applications include EV battery management systems, isolated SPI links to current and voltage monitors, motor drives and inverters, and industrial fieldbus isolation.
For reliable design, keep copper under the isolation barrier clear, decouple both VCC pins closely, and select the F-suffix variant when a low default output is required for safe power-loss behavior.

Applications typiques
ISO6442-Q1 convient pour 6 applications: EV Battery Management Systems, Isolated SPI Links to Current/Voltage Monitors, Motor Drives and Inverters, Industrial Fieldbus and PLC I/O Isolation, Isolated Communications and CAN Networks, On-Board Chargers and DC-DC Power Systems.
EV Battery Management Systems
The ISO6442-Q1 isolates SPI and parallel control signals between the low-voltage BMS controller and high-voltage battery stacks. Its AEC-Q100 qualification covers automotive temperature and reliability requirements, while the 250 kV/us CMTI keeps data valid across switching transients from the traction inverter sharing the same harness. Placed on the communication bus between the pack monitor and the vehicle ECU, it adds no switching noise and supports the ISO 26262 workflow via TI's SFFSB42 FIT and pin FMA document. The F-suffix low-default-output option gives a defined safe state if the isolated side loses power.
Recommandé
Isolated SPI Links to Current/Voltage Monitors
High-speed monitoring ADCs and current sensors across an isolation barrier need margin over SPI clocks of 10-50 MHz. The ISO6442-Q1's 150 Mbps data rate provides roughly 3x headroom over a 50 MHz SPI bus, while 250 kV/us CMTI rejects ground-potential transients when the measured rail is a switching power stage. Two forward and two reverse channels match SPI's SCLK/MOSI forward and MISO/CS reverse routing without extra devices. Enable pins allow tri-stating the bus during diagnostics, and the robust EMC rating reduces bit errors in electrically noisy enclosures.
Recommandé
Motor Drives and Inverters
In inverter legs, dv/dt events of tens of kV/us couple onto any signal crossing the isolation barrier. The ISO6442-Q1's 250 kV/us CMTI maintains correct logic levels at the PWM controller boundary, and the 150 Mbps rate accommodates fast PWM update and feedback telemetry. The device's capacitive isolation technology provides robust EMC immunity required near gate-driver switching nodes. Position it between the MCU (e.g., C2000) and isolated gate drivers, decoupling both VCC pins closely; the DW-16 wide-SOIC option increases creepage for higher bus voltages.
Recommandé
Industrial Fieldbus and PLC I/O Isolation
PLC digital I/O modules must isolate field wiring from the backplane logic while passing fast parallel status and control lines. The ISO6442-Q1's four-channel 2/2 configuration maps naturally to paired input/output signal groups, and basic or reinforced isolation options let one device serve both functional and safety isolation needs in the same module. Robust EMC performance handles the surge and burst environment of factory floors, and per-direction enable pins support hot-swap or diagnostic tri-state modes. The industrial ISO6442 variant suits non-automotive builds at lower cost.
Recommandé
Isolated Communications and CAN Networks
When combined with an isolated transceiver, the ISO6442-Q1 bridges a host MCU to automotive or industrial CAN networks, keeping the transceiver's noisy bus-side supply fully separated from controller logic. Its 150 Mbps rate is far beyond CAN-FD's 8 Mbps, so it introduces negligible timing margin loss, and high CMTI is essential where common-mode voltage on the bus swings rapidly during arbitration. AEC-Q100 qualification permits in-vehicle gateway placement, and the wide-SOIC package variant provides additional creepage for 12V and 48V zonal architectures.
Recommandé
On-Board Chargers and DC-DC Power Systems
In OBC and auxiliary power stages, control telemetry must cross the high-voltage/low-voltage boundary with fast, glitch-free edges. The ISO6442-Q1 carries PWM enable, fault, and feedback signals with 250 kV/us CMTI immunity against primary-side switching events, and reinforced isolation supports the safety barrier requirement of the power stage. Its enable pins allow the secondary side to tri-state the link during standby, trimming system quiescent power. Pair with isolated flyback controllers and automotive LDOs for the isolated-side supply to complete the barrier architecture.

Principaux différenciateurs
- Highest CMTI in class for harsh switching environments (vs ISO7742QFDBQRQ1)
- 150 Mbps data rate for high-speed SPI and parallel links (vs ISO7742QFDBQRQ1)
- Choice of fail-safe default state within the same pinout (vs ISO6442FDBQRQ1)
Notes de conception
Keep all copper and traces away from the area directly beneath the isolation barrier; creepage and clearance across the barrier must match the reinforced or basic rating chosen for the design. The DW-16 wide SOIC offers the largest physical separation for high-voltage systems, while DBQ-16 fits tighter layouts rated 3000 Vrms. Follow the pin FMA guidance in TI document SFFSB42 when performing safety analysis.
Decouple both VCC1 and VCC2 with 0.1 uF ceramic capacitors placed within 2 mm of each supply pin, plus bulk capacitance on each isolated domain. Because side-2 ground is often referenced to a switching power stage, route its return directly to the local supply and avoid sharing return paths with high-dv/dt nodes.
Select the default-output behavior deliberately: ISO6442-Q1 defaults HIGH on input power or signal loss, while the F suffix defaults LOW. Using the wrong suffix can create an unsafe state in motor-drive or BMS fault conditions. Also verify the enable pins are driven to a defined level during power-up; floating enables can leave outputs in an undefined tri-state during sequencing.
