TPS76333DBVR Présentation
An LDO (Low-Dropout) linear regulator is a type of voltage regulator that maintains a stable output voltage even when the input voltage is only slightly higher than the output voltage. LDOs sit within the broader power-management IC hierarchy: LDO -> linear regulator -> voltage regulator -> power management IC -> semiconductor. Compared with switching regulators, LDOs introduce no switching ripple and require only small input/output capacitors, but they dissipate (VIN - VOUT) x IOUT as heat, which limits them to low-current and low-dropout applications.
The TPS76333 offers ±2% output accuracy across line, load, and temperature for the new chip revision, and provides a 3.3V fixed output suitable for powering MCUs, digital logic, and analog circuitry from a 5V or higher rail. Integrated current-limit and thermal-shutdown features protect the device from output shorts and overload conditions. The 5-pin SOT-23 footprint makes it appropriate for cost-sensitive, space-constrained designs.
Typical applications include portable and battery-powered equipment, microcontroller and DSP core rails, post-regulation after a switching converter to remove ripple, and 3.3V logic supply generation from a 5V bus. Designers should select input and output capacitors rated to handle the expected ripple and ensure VIN remains above VOUT + dropout at the minimum load step. The fixed-output variant eliminates external resistors, simplifying BOM and reducing board area in high-volume consumer products.

Applications typiques
TPS76333DBVR convient pour 6 applications: Portable Battery-Powered Devices, Microcontroller Core Rail Supply, Post-Regulation After Switching Converter, Industrial Sensor Modules, Consumer Audio and Wearable Electronics, USB-Powered Peripherals.
Portable Battery-Powered Devices
The TPS76333DBVR fits portable and battery-powered products because its 85 µA active quiescent current and 1 µA shutdown current at TJ = 25 °C minimize standby drain, extending battery life across multi-month idle periods. With a 150 mA rating and 3.3V fixed output, it powers MCUs, BLE radios, and sensor ICs directly from a single-cell Li-ion or 2xAA stack. The 2.7-10V input range accepts a fresh Li-ion (4.2V) down to end-of-life (3.0V) without regulation dropout, and the SOT-23-5 footprint saves board area in wearables and IoT nodes.
Recommandé
Microcontroller Core Rail Supply
The TPS76333DBVR is ideal for MCU core rails because it delivers a clean 3.3V with ±2% line/load/temp accuracy required by 3.3V digital logic, eliminating ripple from upstream switching converters. With 150 mA continuous current it comfortably supplies STM32, MSP430, and similar Cortex-M devices plus peripheral I/O. Thermal dissipation at low VIN-VOUT differential (e.g. 3.8V -> 3.3V at 50 mA = 25 mW) is negligible, so no heatsink is required even in enclosed plastic housings. The logic-enabled sleep pin lets the MCU power-gate the regulator during deep-sleep.
Recommandé
Post-Regulation After Switching Converter
The TPS76333DBVR works as a post-regulator to clean up switching ripple from an upstream buck or boost converter, providing a low-noise 3.3V rail for analog and RF sections. With its 72 dB-class PSRR (typical for the TPS763 family) and no switching noise of its own, it removes the residual ripple that would otherwise appear on AVDD pins of ADC/DAC or RF transceiver supplies. Designers place a TPS62841DLCR upstream and a TPS76333DBVR downstream to combine high-efficiency conversion with low-noise final regulation. The SOT-23-5 footprint stacks neatly behind the switching converter on a 2-layer PCB.
Recommandé
Industrial Sensor Modules
The TPS76333DBVR suits industrial 4-20 mA loop-powered sensor modules and PLC analog front-ends thanks to its -40 °C to +125 °C operating range and 10V absolute-maximum input withstand. It generates a stable 3.3V for ADC references, HART modems, and digital isolators from a 5V or 24V (post-preregulator) industrial bus. Internal current limit and thermal shutdown protect the regulator against field wiring shorts and overloads common in industrial installations. The TI TPS763 family has a long production history making it widely second-sourced for industrial longevity programs.
Recommandé
Consumer Audio and Wearable Electronics
The TPS76333DBVR fits consumer audio and wearable electronics because its SOT-23-5 package occupies minimal board area and its fixed 3.3V output eliminates external feedback parts. With 150 mA it powers Bluetooth audio SoCs, MEMS microphones, and small Class-D amplifier front-ends from a Li-ion cell. The 1 µA shutdown current preserves battery life when the wearable is off, and the active-high enable pin supports button-press power gating via the host MCU. Designers benefit from ±2% accuracy which keeps audio DAC reference voltages within spec across temperature.
Recommandé
USB-Powered Peripherals
The TPS76333DBVR works in USB-powered peripherals because its 2.7-10V input range comfortably accepts the 5V VBUS rail with margin for over-voltage events. With 150 mA continuous output it supplies MCU, status LEDs, and low-speed USB bridge chips downstream of a 5V VBUS source. The internal current limit and thermal shutdown protect against VBUS short-to-ground faults, and the enable pin can be tied to a logic-level power-good signal for sequenced startup. For bus-powered designs targeting USB-IF compliance, the TPS76333's low Iq keeps total idle draw under the USB suspend threshold.

Notes de conception
Estimated: At VIN=5V, VOUT=3.3V, IOUT=150 mA, power dissipation is (5 - 3.3) * 0.150 = 255 mW. With SOT-23-5 theta_JA typically around 220-260 C/W on a 1 oz 2-layer board, junction temperature rise is approximately 55-65 C above ambient, well inside the 125 C operating limit. Designers running near 10V VIN at full 150 mA (Pdiss ~ 1 W) must use a copper pour under the exposed pad area to keep Tj below 125 C.
Place the input capacitor (1 µF minimum, ceramic X7R) within 5 mm of the IN pin and the output capacitor (1 µF minimum, ceramic X7R) within 5 mm of the OUT pin. The TPS76333 is stable with low-ESR ceramic output capacitors; do not substitute tantalum or aluminum without checking ESR stability region in the TI datasheet. Keep high-current load traces away from the feedback path to avoid noise coupling.
Do not exceed the absolute maximum input voltage of 10V - transients above this rating can permanently damage the device. The EN pin is logic-level and must not be left floating; tie it to IN through a 100 kΩ resistor if not actively driven. Output accuracy degrades if the output capacitor falls below 1 µF effective capacitance, so avoid Y5V dielectrics which lose capacitance with DC bias. For applications requiring AEC-Q100, choose an automotive-graded part rather than the standard TPS76333.
The TPS76333's 1 µA maximum shutdown current (at TJ = 25 °C) makes it ideal for always-on battery designs. To minimize quiescent current, drive EN low during long idle periods; the regulator output collapses and Iq drops to the µA range. For multi-rail systems, sequence the TPS76333's EN after any upstream converter power-good signal to prevent back-feeding through the output pin during startup.
