- Dual H-bridge in a single package (vs DRV8701)
Design Notes
At 8 A per bridge and 0.15 ohm RDS(on), each bridge dissipates approximately 9.6 W (P = I^2 * R). The TQFP-48 (EP) package has a thermal resistance of about 25 C/W (theta_JA) with proper PCB design. Ensure a large copper area and thermal vias under the exposed pad to keep junction temperature below 150C.
Place 100 nF ceramic capacitors close to each VS pin and a 10 uF bulk capacitor on the motor supply. For the logic supply, use a 100 nF capacitor near VDD. Route SPI lines with controlled impedance and keep them away from high-current motor traces to avoid noise coupling.
Do not exceed the absolute maximum supply voltage of 28 V. Ensure the SPI interface is properly initialized before enabling the bridges. Use a pull-up resistor on the CSN pin to prevent spurious SPI communication during power-up. Also, avoid enabling both high-side and low-side switches simultaneously to prevent shoot-through.
