K9XXG08UXM Visão geral

The Samsung K9XXG08UXM is a 2G x 8 Bit (2Gb, x8 I/O) NAND Flash memory device operating from a 2.7V to 3.6V supply, organized as (1G + 32M) bit x 8 bit with a (2K + 64) byte page size, housed in a 48-pin TSOP package. The XXG08UXM suffix denotes a family placeholder covering 2Gb-class x8 SLC NAND devices such as the K9F2G08UXM and K9K8G08UXM variants.

NAND Flash is a non-volatile memory technology in which memory cells are connected in series, enabling very high density and low cost per bit compared to NOR Flash. Within the memory hierarchy, NAND Flash sits below NOR Flash and DRAM as mass-storage media, and it is the foundational technology behind SD cards, USB drives, SSDs, and eMMC. Program and erase operations occur on a per-page and per-block basis, requiring a controller or software driver to manage wear leveling, bad-block management, and ECC (error correction code).

Key features of the K9XXG08UXM include a wide 2.7V to 3.6V single supply, automatic program and erase with a page program size of (2K + 64) bytes and block erase of (256K + 8K) bytes, and page read operations with a (2K + 64) byte page size. The x8 I/O interface uses a command/address/data multiplexed 8-bit bus with CLE, ALE, CE, RE, WE, WP, and ready/busy (R/B) control signals, simplifying host interface design. SLC (single-level cell) organization delivers high endurance and deterministic timing.

Architecturally, the device pairs the memory cell array with (2K + 64) byte data registers, buffering page data between the host bus and the array. Spare bytes per page are conventionally used for ECC and bad-block markers per ONFI-style conventions of the era.

Typical applications include embedded system boot and code storage, set-top boxes, industrial data loggers, and legacy solid-state storage modules where an SLC 2Gb x8 NAND in TSOP-48 is required.

Design consideration: because NAND requires bad-block and ECC management, pair this device with a controller or CPU that implements these functions, and reserve spare-area bytes accordingly.

Aplicações típicas

K9XXG08UXM é adequado para 6 aplicaçãos: Embedded Boot Code Storage, Industrial Data Loggers, Set-Top Box and Consumer Electronics Storage, Solid-State Storage Modules, Networking Equipment Configuration Storage, Automotive and Test Fixture Legacy Maintenance.

🔧

Embedded Boot Code Storage

The K9XXG08UXM stores bootloader and firmware images in embedded systems thanks to its SLC architecture, which delivers deterministic read timing and high endurance compared to MLC parts. The (2K + 64) byte page allows a boot ROM to fetch code in small granules, while the ready/busy pin (open-drain R/B) gives simple asynchronous handshaking without polling overhead. With 2Gb capacity, one device holds a redundant boot image plus a golden copy for failover. Because raw NAND can contain initial bad blocks, the boot loader must consult a bad-block table in the spare area and verify ECC before executing code. Placed on a 3.3V rail with 0.1uF decoupling per VCC pin, the device powers up directly into command-latch mode, simplifying first-stage initialization in MCU- and SoC-based platforms.

🏭

Industrial Data Loggers

Industrial data loggers benefit from the K9XXG08UXM's 2.7V-3.6V operation and SLC endurance, which tolerate the frequent small-page writes typical of cyclic event recording. The (256K + 8K) byte block structure lets firmware erase on shift boundaries while wear-leveling software spreads writes evenly across the (1G + 32M) bit x 8 array. The wide 2.7V floor tolerates brownouts common on factory 3.3V rails, and the WP pin allows hardware write-protect during configuration changes. Designers should budget 64 spare bytes per page for ECC and bad-block markers, matching the 1-bit-per-512-byte SLC ECC convention of this generation. For new logger designs where the Samsung part is unavailable, the same-footprint Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP drops onto the identical 48-pin TSOP land pattern with minor firmware timing revalidation.

📺

Set-Top Box and Consumer Electronics Storage

Legacy set-top boxes and consumer AV devices used 2Gb x8 SLC NAND like the K9XXG08UXM for channel databases, firmware, and DVR metadata. The multiplexed 8-bit bus (I/O0-I/O7 with CLE/ALE) minimized pin count on cost-sensitive boards, and the 3.3V supply matched the platform's existing rails, avoiding extra regulators. Program suspend/resume capability lets the host service interrupts during background writes, important for responsive UI behavior. Service replacements today typically use the pin-compatible Winbond W29N02GVSIAA or Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP in the same 48-pin TSOP footprint; technicians should confirm the firmware's block-size expectations, since some cross-brand equivalents use 128KB blocks versus Samsung's 256KB structure, affecting wear-leveling partition layouts.

🖥️

Solid-State Storage Modules

The K9XXG08UXM served as the array element in early SSD and USB storage modules, where multiple 2Gb x8 devices were banked in parallel to raise capacity and bandwidth. The standard NAND command set and 48-pin TSOP footprint enabled simple multi-die stacking on PCBs, and SLC organization delivered the write endurance and uniform latency that early controllers required for predictable mapping tables. Each device contributes an independent R/B pin so the controller can pipeline operations across banks. Modern module repair or re-design substitutes the Macronix MX30LF2G08AD, which is footprint-identical and offers an optional internal ECC mode that offloads the host controller. Designers must ensure the controller ECC polynomial matches the SLC scheme (typically 1-bit Hamming per 512 bytes) to maintain data integrity across the array lifetime.

🌐

Networking Equipment Configuration Storage

Routers and switches of the K9XXG08UXM era stored configuration images and dual firmware slots on 2Gb x8 SLC NAND. The dual-image scheme relies on the (256K + 8K) byte block granularity for independent slot alignment, and the WP pin lets the hardware lock the golden firmware partition against accidental overwrite during runtime. With 2.7V-3.6V tolerance, the device rides the platform's 3.3V standby rail, retaining configuration during deep sleep. R/B-based status handshaking lets the CPU continue packet processing during background program operations. For lifecycle replacements, the same-footprint Micron and Winbond 2Gb devices preserve the layout; qualification focuses on the 5-cycle versus 4-cycle addressing scheme and read-cycle timing (tR) differences documented in each datasheet.

🚗

Automotive and Test Fixture Legacy Maintenance

Automotive ECU test fixtures and legacy vehicle diagnostics boxes that burned in the K9XXG08UXM during the 3.3V SLC NAND era still require the exact device for faithful reproduction of fixture behavior. The part's deterministic SLC read timing makes it suitable where MLC substitutes would break fixture timing assumptions. Because the device is obsolete, maintenance teams source remnant stock or fit the same-footprint Samsung K9F2G08U0M, which preserves pinout and page organization exactly, minimizing requalification to a datasheet-timing review only. For harsh-environment fixtures, verify the operating temperature rating of any substitute, as industrial temperature options differ by suffix and manufacturer. All handling should follow JEDEC moisture-sensitivity practice with proper bake-out before reflow of TSOP-48 packages removed from long storage.

Where can I download the K9XXG08UXM datasheet PDF?
The K9XXG08UXM datasheet PDF is available from archive sources such as alldatasheet.com (document K9XXG08UXM, 51 pages) and the Samsung Semiconductor product archive. According to the archived Samsung datasheet listing, the document describes the 2G x 8 Bit NAND Flash family including K9XXG08UXM-P, -K, -E and -Y speed/packaging variants. Because Samsung has retired these legacy parts from its active catalog, the manufacturer's live portal may no longer serve the file directly, so distributor and datasheet-archive links are the reliable download path.
What is the pinout of the K9XXG08UXM in the 48-pin TSOP package?
The K9XXG08UXM uses the industry-standard 48-pin TSOP NAND pinout: pin 1 is R/B (ready/busy), pin 2 RE, pin 3 CE, pin 5 CLE, pin 6 ALE, pin 10 WP, pin 25 VSS, pins 29-36 are I/O0 through I/O7, pins 42-43 are VCC, pin 46 is SE, and pin 48 is VSSQ, with remaining pins NC. This pinout is shared across the Samsung K9XXG08/K9K8G08 family, which is why same-footprint drop-in substitution is possible. Always verify against the datasheet pin configuration table before PCB layout release.
Is the K9XXG08UXM still in production?
No, the K9XXG08UXM is obsolete and no longer in Samsung's active catalog; datasheet archive sites list it as a discontinued legacy device. According to the archived Samsung documentation, the part was succeeded by later 2Gb-4Gb SLC NAND generations. Replacement stock must come from excess inventory brokers or via pin-compatible alternatives such as Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP or Winbond W29N02GVSIAA in the same 48-pin TSOP footprint, subject to firmware-level bad-block and ECC compatibility validation.
What is the best drop-in replacement for the K9XXG08UXM?
The best drop-in replacement is the Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP, a 2Gb x8 SLC NAND Flash in the same 48-pin TSOP package with the standard NAND command set and pinout (R/B, RE, CE, CLE, ALE, WP, I/O0-7 on identical pins). Within Samsung, the K9F2G08U0M and K9K8G08U0M are same-family pin-compatible equivalents. Any substitute must be qualified for timing compatibility (tR access time, program/erase times) and ECC requirements in the host controller before production use.
What is the difference between the K9XXG08UXM family variants (-P, -K, -E, -Y)?
The suffix letters on K9XXG08UXM parts denote packaging and speed-grade variations within the same 2Gb x8 NAND core: K9XXG08UXM-P, -K, -E, and -Y share the same memory array organization of (1G + 32M) bit x 8 bit and the same 2.7V-3.6V supply. According to archived Samsung datasheets, differences include package style and read-cycle timing classes; the -E revision also documents changes such as IOL of the R/B pin for 1.8V devices and the addition of a WSOP package option. Consult each variant's datasheet revision history for exact differences.
Can the Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP replace the K9XXG08UXM?
Yes, the Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP is a commonly used 2Gb x8 SLC NAND replacement for the K9XXG08UXM in the same 48-pin TSOP package with a pin-compatible NAND interface. Both operate from a 3.3V-class supply (2.7V-3.6V) and use the standard multiplexed command/address/data bus. However, subtle differences in page size, block count, bad-block marking placement, and ECC strength requirements mean the host firmware must be validated against the Micron datasheet before full production swap.
What supply voltage does the K9XXG08UXM require?
The K9XXG08UXM operates from a single 2.7V to 3.6V supply, i.e., a nominal 3.3V rail. According to the Samsung datasheet summary, the voltage supply range is 2.7V to 3.6V for both program and read operations. Designers should provide solid decoupling (typically 0.1uF plus 4.7uF-10uF per device) on VCC pins 42-43 and keep VSS/VSSQ pins 25 and 48 tied to a low-impedance ground plane to prevent program/erase glitches.
Does the K9XXG08UXM require an ECC and bad-block management controller?
Yes, like all raw NAND Flash, the K9XXG08UXM requires the host to implement ECC and bad-block management. The (2K + 64) byte page includes 64 spare bytes per page conventionally allocated to ECC parity and bad-block markers, and the (256K + 8K) byte block structure requires software handling of initial and run-time bad blocks. SLC NAND of this era typically used 1-bit ECC per 512 bytes; the host driver must match that scheme to avoid data corruption over the device lifetime.
What is the price of the K9XXG08UXM?
Pricing for the K9XXG08UXM is quote-based because the part is obsolete and has no authorized-distributor stock as of 2026-09-04. Legacy 2Gb SLC NAND devices of this class historically sold in the single-digit dollar range at quantity 1 when authorized stock existed, but current sourcing occurs through excess-inventory brokers where price varies widely with date codes and quantity. Contact XAIPART for a quote; pin-compatible active alternatives like the Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP often offer better cost and availability.
Where can I buy the K9XXG08UXM online?
The K9XXG08UXM is not stocked by authorized distributors such as DigiKey or Mouser because Samsung has discontinued it; purchase options are excess-inventory marketplaces and independent brokers offering remaining date-code stock. Availability fluctuates and authenticity verification is essential when buying obsolete memory from brokers. For new designs, XAIPART recommends the pin-compatible 48-pin TSOP 2Gb x8 NAND alternatives listed on this page, which are actively manufactured by Micron, Winbond, and Macronix and carry full datasheet and lifecycle support.
What is the lead time for the K9XXG08UXM?
There is no factory lead time for the K9XXG08UXM because the part is obsolete; delivery depends entirely on broker stock on hand, typically ranging from days (in-stock lots) to weeks (sourcing across multiple brokers). For production continuity, engineers should qualify the Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP or Winbond W29N02GVSIAA, both active 2Gb x8 TSOP-48 SLC NAND devices with normal distributor lead times. Since 2009-era SLC NAND has long factory cycles, any future-proofing should rely on active alternatives rather than broker supply.
K9XXG08UXM vs MT29F2G08ABAEAWP - which is better for an industrial data logger?
For a new industrial data logger design, the Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP is the better choice because it is actively manufactured with guaranteed lifecycle support, while the K9XXG08UXM is obsolete and available only from brokers. Both are 2Gb x8 SLC NAND in 48-pin TSOP with 2.7V-3.6V operation, so board compatibility is straightforward. For maintaining an existing legacy design where firmware is locked to Samsung timing, staying with K9XXG08UXM broker stock avoids requalification, but long-term supply risk is high.
What is the best Samsung equivalent for the K9XXG08UXM?
The best Samsung equivalent is the K9F2G08U0M, a 2Gb x8 SLC NAND Flash sharing the same 48-pin TSOP footprint, the same (2K + 64) byte page organization, and the same 2.7V-3.6V supply as the K9XXG08UXM family. The K9K8G08U0M (8Gb x8) is a higher-density same-footprint option if the host supports it. Samsung's part-numbering places K9XXG08UXM as a family placeholder, so these variants are the natural same-brand substitutes sourced from the same datasheet family documentation.
Is the K9XXG08UXM suitable for a boot code storage application?
Yes, the K9XXG08UXM is well suited to boot code storage: its SLC (single-level cell) architecture offers high endurance and deterministic read timing, and its 2Gb capacity comfortably holds bootloader plus application images. The (2K + 64) byte page structure allows the boot ROM to read small code blocks efficiently, and the ready/busy pin provides simple asynchronous handshaking. Note that the bootloader must implement bad-block table handling and ECC checking since raw NAND can ship with initial bad blocks.
How does the multiplexed I/O interface of the K9XXG08UXM work?
The K9XXG08UXM uses an 8-bit multiplexed bus where commands, addresses, and data all travel over I/O0-I/O7, distinguished by the CLE (command latch enable) and ALE (address latch enable) control lines. A write cycle with CLE high latches a command, ALE high latches a 5-cycle address for the 2Gb array, and RE/WE strobe data transfers; the open-drain R/B pin signals busy states during program and erase. This scheme minimizes pin count, which is why it became the de facto NAND interface standard still used today.

Notas de projeto

Decouple both VCC pins (42, 43) with 0.1uF ceramic placed within 3mm of each pin, plus one 4.7uF-10uF bulk capacitor per device; NAND program operations draw current pulses that can droop a lightly decoupled 3.3V rail and corrupt program operations. Tie VSS (pin 25) and VSSQ (pin 48) to a solid ground plane. Route the open-drain R/B line with a 10k pull-up to VCC and keep it short; treat CLE/ALE/CE/RE/WE as length-matched bus group. Keep the I/O bus away from clock lines to avoid latch-edge glitches.

Never assume zero initial bad blocks: raw SLC NAND of this generation may ship with factory-marked bad blocks recorded in the spare area of the first blocks, and additional blocks develop over life. The driver must build and persist a bad-block table and skip marked blocks during erase. Do not power down during program or erase - use the WP pin (pin 10, active low) held low during power transitions to prevent partial-page programming. Address cycles must match the array size: a 2Gb x8 device uses 5 address cycles; substituting an 8Gb part requires 6 cycles.

Operate within the 2.7V to 3.6V window; below 2.7V the device may fail program/erase silently. Estimated: if the rail sags to 2.6V during a bulk program with a 0.5 ohm rail impedance, the device can reset mid-page, corrupting data - add bulk capacitance or a brown-out supervisor (e.g., a voltage supervisor on the memory rail) that asserts WP below 2.85V. Estimated program current of this class of device is on the order of tens of milliamps per page program; size the rail accordingly when banking multiple devices.

For TSOP-48 NAND on buses longer than about 10cm, add small series resistors (22-33 ohm) on WE and RE to control ringing, since these strobes define latch timing. Hold CE asserted only during the target transaction to reduce I/O power. When substituting cross-brand drop-ins (Micron MT29F2G08ABAEAWP, Winbond W29N02GVSIAA), recheck tR and tWC against the substitution datasheet and adjust the controller's read-cycle wait states; a Samsung-tuned driver may read too fast for a slower cross-brand part and produce bit errors rather than a clean failure.
