PIC16LF19155-I/MV Visão geral

The Microchip Technology PIC16LF19155-I/MV is an 8-bit PIC16 core microcontroller featuring 14KB (8K x 14 words) of Flash program memory, 1KB of SRAM, and 256 bytes of EEPROM, housed in a 28-pin UQFN (4x4 mm) package. It runs at up to 32 MHz, operates from 1.8V to 3.6V, and is designed around the company's eXtreme Low-Power (XLP) philosophy, integrating a charge pump for direct LCD glass drive.

An 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) is a single-chip computer with an 8-bit data path, typically built on a Harvard architecture with separate program and data buses. MCUs belong to the broader embedded controller hierarchy: microcontroller -> embedded processor -> semiconductor IC. The PIC16 family adds RISC-style instruction execution, deterministic interrupts, and Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) that offload tasks like waveform generation, signal conditioning, and LCD driving from the CPU. The 'LF' prefix in PIC16LF19155-I/MV indicates the low-voltage/low-power 'F' process node, while the 'I/MV' suffix indicates the industrial temperature grade (-40C to +85C) and the UQFN-28 package.

Key features include 24 GPIO pins, a 12-bit ADC with up to 20 channels, two comparators, two PWM modules, a 5-bit DAC, six timers, and an integrated LCD driver supporting up to 96 segments. The XLP technology provides sleep currents below 1 uA with RTC retention, enabling multi-year coin-cell operation for battery-powered devices.

Architecturally, the PIC16LF19155 uses a RISC core with 49 instructions and a 14-bit instruction word, allowing 8K-word program density in a small footprint. Hardware CIPs (CLC, NCO, DSM, PWM) execute signal-processing functions without CPU intervention, reducing active-mode time and overall power consumption. The integrated LCD charge pump eliminates the need for external boost circuitry on glass displays biased up to 5V.

Typical applications include battery-powered IoT sensor nodes with LCD readouts, medical metering devices, thermostat controls, wearable fitness trackers, electronic shelf labels, and industrial HMI panels. The combination of CIPs and low-power modes makes the part especially attractive for always-on human-machine interfaces that must wake, measure, display, and return to sleep within tight energy budgets.

When designing with this device, budget decoupling capacitance of at least 100 nF near each power pin and route the analog AVdd/AVss pair separately from digital Vdd/Vss to keep ADC noise below 1 LSB. The PIC16LF19155-I/MV is pin-compatible with other PIC16F191xx family members in UQFN-28, enabling code reuse and second-source flexibility on the same PCB land pattern.

Notas de projeto

Place a 100 nF ceramic decoupling capacitor within 3 mm of each VDD pin and a single 10 uF bulk capacitor near the device. For coin-cell applications drawing sub-uA sleep currents, use a low-leakage ceramic (C0G/NP0 dielectric) on AVDD to avoid supply droop during ADC conversions. The PIC16LF19155-I/MV's XLP sleep modes need the watchdog disabled and the BOR configured to lowest level to minimize reset-induced current spikes. Estimated: at 1.8V supply and 32 kHz LFINTOSC, sleep current remains under 1 uA per Microchip XLP datasheet curves.

The 28-UQFN (4x4 mm) exposed thermal pad must be soldered to a ground pad of at least 2x2 mm on the PCB for mechanical reliability and thermal dissipation. Route analog AVSS/AVDD as a star topology from a single ferrite-bead-filtered point to keep ADC noise below 1 LSB. Avoid routing high-speed digital signals (EUSART, PWM) under the LCD segment lines, as capacitive coupling can inject noise into the LCD bias generation and cause display ghosting.

Do not exceed 3.6V on any I/O pin when running from a 3.3V regulated rail - the PIC16LF19155-I/MV is not 5V-tolerant and over-voltage will trigger clamping diodes. When migrating code from PIC16F19155 to PIC16LF19155, verify that ADC references and FVR settings remain within the lower 1.8-3.6V range. The MCLR pin must have a 10 kohm pull-up to VDD if unused, or it will appear as a floating input and cause spurious resets in noisy environments.
