PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF Visão geral

The Microchip Technology PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF is a high-performance 32-bit MIPS32 M4K microcontroller running at up to 80 MHz, equipped with 512 KB of Flash and 64 KB of SRAM, and housed in a 100-pin TQFP (14x14 mm) package. It integrates a USB-OTG full-speed controller, two CAN modules, and a 10-bit ADC, making it a single-chip solution for connected embedded designs. The 'T' suffix denotes tape-and-reel packaging and '80V' denotes the 80 MHz speed grade with the commercial/extended voltage range, while 'PF' denotes the 100-pin TQFP package.

A PIC32MX microcontroller is a MIPS-based 32-bit MCU from Microchip that bridges the gap between the 8/16-bit PIC families and higher-performance ARM Cortex-M parts. In the broader taxonomy: PIC32MX -> 32-bit MCU -> microcontroller -> embedded processor -> semiconductor. The M4K core offers single-cycle multiply and divide, hardware multiply-accumulate, and a 5-stage pipeline, giving roughly 1.5 DMIPS/MHz - significantly more headroom than legacy PIC16/PIC24 devices for DSP-style filtering, USB stacks, and graphical user interfaces.

Key features of the PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF include 512 KB Flash, 64 KB SRAM, 80 MHz core clock, USB-OTG full-speed with on-chip transceiver, dual CAN 2.0B controllers, a 10-bit 1 Msps ADC with up to 16 channels, four SPI/I2S, five I2C, six UART modules, five 16-bit timers, eight-channel DMA, and parallel master port (PMP) for graphics or external memory. The 100-pin TQFP footprint exposes the maximum peripheral count of the family, supporting simultaneous Ethernet MAC + USB + dual CAN in industrial networking designs.

The architecture uses separate 32-bit instruction and data paths (Harvard) with a tightly-coupled prefetch module that hides Flash latency, enabling zero-wait-state execution at 80 MHz from on-chip memory. Hardware interrupt controller with 5-cycle latency supports deterministic real-time response, and a Fail-Safe Clock Monitor (FSCM) detects primary oscillator failure and switches to the internal 8 MHz FRC backup. The integrated 3.3V core runs from a 2.3V to 3.6V supply, simplifying designs powered from USB bus or industrial 24V-bus-derived rails.

Typical applications include industrial CAN nodes (e.g., CANopen/J1939 gateways), USB-OTG peripherals (mass storage, HID, CDC), point-of-sale terminals, motor control FOC drives, building automation controllers, and medical instrumentation requiring USB connectivity. The 10-bit ADC is adequate for non-precision sensor reading, while the dual CAN bus lets the MCU serve as a bridge between automotive/industrial segments.

When designing with this device, reserve a 12 KB Boot Flash region for a USB bootloader, place a 32.768 kHz crystal on SOSCO/SOSCI if RTC accuracy is required, and add a 1uF + 100nF decoupling pair at every VDD/VSS pin pair. Use the parallel master port (PMP) for LCD interfacing up to QVGA resolution without an external graphics controller.

Aplicações típicas

PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF é adequado para 6 aplicaçãos: Industrial CAN-Bus Node, USB-OTG Peripheral Device, Point-of-Sale (POS) Terminal, Motor Control / Field-Oriented Control Drive, Building Automation Controller, Medical Instrumentation with USB.

🏭

Industrial CAN-Bus Node

The PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF's dual CAN 2.0B controllers (each up to 1 Mbps) make it an excellent fit for industrial CAN nodes such as CANopen slaves, J1939 vehicle gateways, and DeviceNet adapters. At 80 MHz the MIPS32 M4K core comfortably runs the CANopen or J1939 stack alongside the application task scheduler, with the 64 KB SRAM providing enough headroom for CAN message buffers plus a small TCP/IP or Modbus gateway stack. The 100-pin TQFP exposes 16 ADC channels for analog sensor readout (temperature, pressure, level) and 5 timers for PWM actuator control, all while the integrated USB-OTG controller allows the same node to appear as a USB device on a service laptop for firmware updates. Compared to using a discrete CAN controller plus an 8-bit MCU, this single-chip solution reduces BOM cost, PCB area, and firmware complexity.

📱

USB-OTG Peripheral Device

The PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF integrates a USB 2.0 Full-Speed OTG controller with an on-chip transceiver, eliminating the need for an external USB PHY and reducing BOM to just a USB connector, ESD diode, and pull-up resistor. The 512 KB Flash accommodates the Microchip USB stack plus class drivers (CDC, HID, MSD, vendor), while 64 KB SRAM is ample for double-buffered USB endpoints. Typical product implementations include USB mass-storage readers, USB-to-UART bridges, USB HID game controllers, and USB CDC virtual COM ports for industrial configuration tools. OTG host mode also lets the device power a connected USB peripheral (e.g., a USB flash drive for data logging), and the integrated DMA engine handles USB packet transfer without CPU intervention, freeing MIPS for application logic.

💳

Point-of-Sale (POS) Terminal

The combination of 512 KB Flash (enough for embedded graphical UI assets), 64 KB SRAM (buffering transaction data), USB-OTG (for receipt printer / barcode scanner peripherals), and dual CAN (for connecting to a back-office inventory bus) makes the PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF well suited for compact point-of-sale terminals. The parallel master port (PMP) interfaces directly to a QVGA TFT LCD without an external graphics controller, cutting BOM cost by $1 to $2 versus ARM Cortex-M solutions that typically require an external controller. The 10-bit ADC handles keypad scanning and battery monitoring, while five timers drive PWM-controlled backlight, buzzer, and paper-cutter actuator. The 100-pin TQFP exposes all required peripherals simultaneously, eliminating the need for a larger more expensive package.

🏭

Motor Control / Field-Oriented Control Drive

For low-to-mid power BLDC or PMSM motor drives (e.g., small industrial pumps, fans, e-bike hubs up to ~500 W), the PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF provides sufficient MIPS to run a single-shunt or dual-shunt sensorless FOC algorithm at 20 kHz PWM. Five 16-bit timers support PWM generation, input capture for Hall sensors or quadrature encoders, and PWM-fault shutdown for overcurrent protection. The 10-bit ADC with 1 Msps sampling is adequate for BEMF zero-crossing detection on sensorless BLDC designs. Compared to dedicated motor-control ICs, this general-purpose MCU gives designers flexibility to also implement CAN, USB diagnostics, and an LCD UI on the same silicon. The 100-pin TQFP allows direct connection to the gate driver and three-phase inverter without I/O muxing.

🏭

Building Automation Controller

Building automation controllers (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks gateways) require simultaneous connectivity to multiple field buses. The PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF integrates CAN (for BACnet MS/TP), UART (for Modbus RTU or LonWorks), SPI/I2C (for sensor and EEPROM), USB (for technician configuration), and enough GPIO to drive relay outputs and read dry-contact inputs. The 512 KB Flash holds the BACnet/Modbus protocol stacks plus application firmware, and 64 KB SRAM is sufficient for trend-log buffers. The 100-pin TQFP package provides ample I/O to interface with multiple physical media in a single controller, replacing designs that previously needed two MCUs (one for protocol, one for application). The -40C to +105C V grade covers rooftop and unconditioned-space installations.

💊

Medical Instrumentation with USB

Compact medical instruments (handheld pulse oximeters, portable spirometers, USB-connected ECG modules) benefit from the PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF's USB-OTG device mode for streaming data to a host PC or tablet. The 10-bit ADC is sufficient for non-precision sensor readout (e.g., pulse oximeter photodiode amplification), and the 64 KB SRAM provides adequate sample buffering for short acquisitions. Although not AEC-Q100 qualified, the 80 MHz MIPS32 core plus deterministic interrupt latency is suitable for medical prototypes under IEC 62304 software lifecycle processes. The 100-pin TQFP exposes I/O for an LCD, keypad, buzzer, and Li-ion battery charger interface, allowing a complete medical device in a single chip.

Choose the PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF when your application needs 512 KB of Flash for a larger firmware image, USB stack, and graphical assets, or 64 KB SRAM for buffering USB packets or CAN messages. The PIC32MX575F256LT-80V/PF (256 KB Flash, 32 KB SRAM) is sufficient for smaller protocols and lower-cost designs. Both use the same 100-pin TQFP package, so the PCB layout does not change.
What is the best Microchip equivalent for an STM32F105 in the same TQFP-100 footprint?
Microchip's closest STM32F105-class equivalent is the PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF itself: 80 MHz 32-bit core, 512 KB Flash, 64 KB SRAM, USB-OTG FS, dual CAN, and a 100-pin TQFP package (14x14 mm). It targets the same connected industrial market segment, although the STM32 uses an ARM Cortex-M3 core instead of MIPS. Pinout is not identical to STM32F105, so a PCB redesign is required for that specific cross-brand migration.
Can PIC32MX575F512L-80V/PF replace PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF in production?
Yes. The PIC32MX575F512L-80V/PF (tray packaging) and PIC32MX575F512LT-80V/PF (tape-and-reel) are functionally and pin-for-pin identical, with the same 100-pin TQFP package, 80 MHz core, 512 KB Flash, and 64 KB SRAM. The only difference is the carrier format supplied to the SMT line, so substituting tray for tape-and-reel (or vice versa) does not require any firmware or PCB changes.

Notas de projeto

Place a 1 uF + 100 nF decoupling pair within 5 mm of every VDD/VSS pin pair on the 100-pin TQFP package. The PIC32MX575 core can draw transient currents of 100 mA or more during Flash burst operations, and insufficient decoupling will show up as VDD bounce on the ADC readings and intermittent USB packet errors. Add a bulk 10 uF tantalum or ceramic cap near the package's VDD center pin. Keep the analog AVDD pin separate from digital VDD with its own ferrite bead if the ADC accuracy matters below 1 LSB.

Route the USB D+ and D- differential pair with 90-ohm differential impedance, matched trace lengths within 150 mil, and keep them away from switching regulator or PWM traces. The PIC32MX575 USB-OTG Full-Speed compliance tests will fail with more than 50 mil length mismatch. For the CAN bus, route CANH and CANL as a 120-ohm terminated differential pair with a 4.7 nF split termination to ground on each node. Both buses benefit from a TVS diode such as PESD1CAN for CAN or USBLC6-2SC6 for USB at the connector.

A common mistake is to leave the Boot Flash region (12 KB at the top of Flash) unprotected; this allows the application code to be overwritten by an accidental jump table entry and produce mysterious crashes. Configure the Boot Flash as write-protected in the DEVCFG0 configuration bits, and only unprotect it when an intentional bootloader is in place. Another frequent pitfall is to forget the external 32.768 kHz crystal on SOSCO/SOSCI - the on-chip RTCC then drifts by minutes per hour, which corrupts any RTC timestamp in CANopen or J1939 stacks.

Estimated: at maximum core activity (80 MHz, peripherals active) the PIC32MX575 dissipates roughly 60 to 80 mA from a 3.3 V supply, or 0.2 to 0.27 W. The 100-pin TQFP (14x14 mm) has a theta-JA of approximately 50 C/W on a standard 4-layer JEDEC test board, giving a junction-temperature rise of 10 to 14 C above ambient - well within the 105 C limit (V grade) at room temperature. For sealed enclosures above 70 C ambient, derate by 50% to maintain a 25 C safety margin. No external heatsink is required.
