TJF1051T/3/1J Übersicht
A CAN transceiver is the analog front-end that converts the digital TXD/RXD logic levels of a microcontroller into the differential dominant/recessive signalling required on the CAN bus, while also providing ESD protection, bus fault tolerance, and common-mode rejection. The TJF1051T/3 family adds a VIO level-adapter supply pin that allows direct interfacing to microcontrollers with supply voltages from 3V to 5V, simplifying mixed-voltage designs where the MCU runs at 3.3V but the bus nodes may operate at 5V.
Key features include an extremely low ElectroMagnetic Emission (EME) due to built-in slope control on the CANH/CANL outputs, a Silent mode (S) input for low-power bus monitoring without disturbing traffic, and high immunity to ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) on the bus lines. The device also includes thermal shutdown, bus dominant time-out protection, and an undervoltage detector on VCC and VIO, ensuring robust behaviour on harsh automotive or industrial bus networks. It is the pin-compatible successor to the TJA1051 with improved EMC behaviour and tighter parametric compliance with the ISO 11898-2:2016 specification.
Typical applications include automotive body and chassis CAN nodes, industrial CANopen networks, building automation, and any MCU-to-CAN-bus interface requiring 3.3V or 5V logic compatibility with low EME and high EMI immunity. Compared with older TJA1050/TJA1040 designs, the TJF1051T/3 provides substantially reduced electromagnetic emissions, removing the need for external common-mode chokes in many layouts.
When designing with this part, place the VIO decoupling capacitor as close as possible to pin 5 and ensure both VCC and VIO are present before TXD transitions are applied. The Silent mode pin must be tied LOW for normal operation or driven by the MCU when bus diagnostics or low-power standby states are required. The /1 JTR suffix indicates 2500-piece reel packaging.

Designhinweise
Place a 100 nF X7R ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to pin 3 (VCC) and a separate 100 nF capacitor as close as possible to pin 5 (VIO). According to the NXP TJF1051 datasheet, inadequate VIO decoupling can cause logic-level glitches on TXD/RXD lines and bus communication errors. Keep the CANH/CANL traces as short as possible and use a twisted-pair or controlled-impedance differential routing with 120 ohm characteristic impedance matching the bus termination resistors at each end of the bus segment.
Do not leave the S (Silent mode) pin floating. According to the NXP TJF1051 datasheet, pin 8 must be tied LOW for normal transmit/receive operation, or driven by the MCU when diagnostic listen-only mode is required. A floating S pin can cause intermittent bus silencing in noisy environments. Also note the VIO pin (5) is only present on the TJF1051T/3 variant; for the non-/3 part this pin is no-connect, and leaving VIO floating on /3 parts will cause undefined TXD/RXD logic levels.
Route CANH and CANL as a tightly coupled differential pair with 120 ohm differential impedance, and avoid crossing them with noisy digital or switching power traces. The bus termination should use split termination (two 60 ohm resistors with a capacitor to ground at the centre tap) to improve EME performance, especially important when migrating from TJA1050 designs where a single 120 ohm resistor was common. According to NXP's EMC application notes, this layout typically reduces common-mode noise by 6-10 dB.
When interfacing to a 3.3V MCU, ensure the VIO supply is the same rail as the MCU supply and is stable before TXD transitions are applied. According to the NXP TJF1051 datasheet, applying TXD edges while VIO is below its undervoltage threshold can put the transceiver into an undefined state and corrupt bus communication. For 5V-only systems where VIO is not needed, tie VIO to VCC through a small ferrite or resistor to share the same 5V rail. Add a TVS diode such as PESD1CAN or similar on CANH/CANL for automotive transient protection per ISO 7637-2.
