5M570ZM100A5N Présentation
A CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) is a non-volatile programmable logic device that sits in the digital hierarchy between simple PLDs/glue logic and high-density FPGAs. It typically contains multiple macrocell-based logic blocks connected via a programmable interconnect fabric (PIA), providing fast, deterministic pin-to-pin propagation delays for combinatorial and registered logic, bus interfacing, and power-up state control. CPLDs retain configuration in on-chip flash, requiring no external boot PROM.
Key features of the 5M570ZM100A5N include 440 macrocells (equivalent to ~570 logic elements), 74 user I/Os, 1.8 V core VCCINT, user I/O bank support for 1.5 V / 1.8 V / 2.5 V / 3.3 V LVCMOS/LVTTL interfaces via MultiVolt I/O, an internal oscillator, in-system programmability via JTAG, and an instant-on non-volatile architecture. The device targets glue-logic, interface bridging, power-up sequencing, and control-plane tasks where deterministic timing and zero-boot-time behavior are required.
The 5M570ZM100A5N uses a flash-based, look-up-table macrocell architecture with eight logic array blocks (LABs), each containing 16 macrocells. The JTAG/IEEE 1149.1 boundary-scan interface supports in-system programming and board-level test, while the on-chip oscillator removes the need for an external clock source in many designs. MultiVolt I/O banks allow direct interfacing with 1.5 V, 1.8 V, 2.5 V, and 3.3 V logic without level shifters.
Typical applications include bus interface bridging (e.g., I2C-to-SPI, RGB-to-LVDS), power-up and power-down sequencing for processors/ASICs/FPGAs, I/O expansion and reset distribution, control-plane logic in industrial controllers, and general board-level glue logic in communications and consumer equipment. The combination of low power, instant-on, and high I/O count makes it well suited as a companion device to higher-density Cyclone or Stratix FPGAs.
When designing with the 5M570ZM100A5N, observe the VCCINT decoupling guidelines in the MAX V device handbook (place 0.1 uF and bulk capacitors close to the supply balls), and use the Quartus II / Quartus Prime MAX V device library for synthesis, fitting, and timing analysis. Note that this MBGA-100 package is not socket-friendly - PCB assembly requires BGA reflow and X-ray or AOI inspection.

Applications typiques
5M570ZM100A5N convient pour 6 applications: FPGA/ASIC Power-Up Sequencing Controller, I2C / SPI / UART Bus Bridge, Industrial Control-Plane Glue Logic, Display Interface Bridge (RGB-to-LVDS, MIPI Side-band), Board-Level Reset and Clock Distribution, Consumer Device Interface Expansion.
FPGA/ASIC Power-Up Sequencing Controller
The 5M570ZM100A5N is an excellent power-up sequencer for systems with multi-rail processors, ASICs, or FPGAs. Its instant-on flash configuration means all 74 I/Os drive to a known state at t=0, and the 1.8 V core with MultiVolt I/O banks (1.5/1.8/2.5/3.3 V) directly interfaces with each rail's enable pin. With 440 macrocells the device can orchestrate sequencing for 10+ rails, monitor POWER_GOOD feedback, and assert reset - all while drawing only 27 uA standby. Use it as a companion device to a Cyclone V, Stratix, or any external ASIC.
Recommandé
I2C / SPI / UART Bus Bridge
The 5M570ZM100A5N's 440 macrocells and 74 I/Os are well suited to implementing custom bus bridges between processors and peripherals. A typical bridge uses four I/O pins per I2C/SPI channel plus a small state machine, allowing the CPLD to translate between I2C and SPI, multiplex UARTs, or add parity/handshake logic. The 118.3 MHz internal frequency supports bus rates up to about 30 MHz, covering most legacy and modern embedded protocols. Non-volatile configuration means the bridge is live immediately on power-up.
Recommandé
Industrial Control-Plane Glue Logic
Industrial PLCs, motor controllers, and factory-automation boards need glue logic for level translation, reset distribution, watchdog supervision, and address decoding. The 5M570ZM100A5N's industrial temperature range, low 27 uA standby, and 74 I/Os let one CPLD replace a handful of 74-series TTL chips. The 100-ball MBGA (6x6 mm) fits inside small DIN-rail and machine-vision PCBs. Combined with its deterministic tPD, it adds predictable timing margins to ASIL-rated industrial designs.
Recommandé
Display Interface Bridge (RGB-to-LVDS, MIPI Side-band)
LCD/panel adapters often need RGB-to-LVDS bridging, pixel-clock multiplication, or side-band signal generation between a processor and a TFT panel. The 5M570ZM100A5N can generate side-band signals (backlight enable, PWM dimming, H/V sync retiming) and perform minor pixel remapping, freeing the host processor from timing-critical tasks. 74 I/Os are enough for 18/24-bit RGB plus control and backlight signals. MultiVolt I/O banks support both 1.8 V processor logic and 3.3 V panel signaling.
Recommandé
Board-Level Reset and Clock Distribution
Modern SoCs and FPGAs require coordinated resets across multiple rails and a low-jitter clock tree. The 5M570ZM100A5N can buffer and fan out clocks using its on-chip PLL-free oscillator plus external clock inputs, while its 74 I/Os distribute individually-tailored reset pulses to different subsystems. Deterministic tPD ensures reset skew stays within datasheet limits - critical for JTAG-chain integrity and PCIe/SERDES link-up.
Recommandé
Consumer Device Interface Expansion
Set-top boxes, smart-home hubs, and IoT gateways often lack enough GPIO or specialized peripherals for keypad scanning, IR receive/transmit, or LED matrix driving. The 5M570ZM100A5N's 74 I/Os and 440 macrocells can scan an 8x8 keypad, generate IR carrier signals, and Charlieplex an LED array - all without burdening the host CPU. The MBGA-100 (6x6 mm) fits in slim enclosures, and the 1.8 V core keeps standby power at 27 uA.

Notes de conception
Place 0.1 uF decoupling capacitors as close as possible to every VCCINT and VCCIO ball, plus bulk capacitors on each supply rail. For the 100-ball MBGA package, fan-out the balls on the top layer to vias-in-pad or near-pad, then route power on inner layers. Avoid running high-speed signals under the BGA unless on a dedicated ground-plane inner layer.
The 118.3 MHz internal clock and MultiVolt I/O banks can generate edge rates fast enough to cause reflections on unterminated traces. For LVCMOS 3.3 V outputs driving cables or long PCB traces (>50 mm), add a 33 ohm series damping resistor near the CPLD. For LVDS or higher-speed interfaces, route as 100 ohm differential pairs with matched length.
Do not assume all I/O banks are independent - VCCIO must be powered before or simultaneously with VCCINT, or the I/O pins enter an indeterminate state that can latch-up internal ESD structures. Always tie JTAG TCK low during power-up to keep the device in bypass mode if the JTAG chain is shared with another device that boots later.
