INA950-SEP Présentation
A current-sense amplifier is a specialized operational amplifier that measures current by amplifying the small differential voltage across a sense resistor while rejecting the common-mode voltage. It is a key building block in power management systems, enabling accurate monitoring of load currents, battery charging, and power supply health. The INA950-SEP belongs to the family of analog current-sense amplifiers, which are essential for closed-loop control and protection in industrial, automotive, and aerospace systems.
Key features include a wide common-mode input range of 2.7V to 80V, a bandwidth of 1.1MHz, and ultra-precise gain accuracy. The device is designed for space applications, offering enhanced radiation tolerance and reliability. Its low quiescent current of 370μA minimizes power consumption, making it suitable for battery-powered and energy-harvesting systems. The TSSOP-8 package provides a compact footprint for space-constrained PCBs.
Technically, the INA950-SEP uses a precision current-sense architecture that maintains high accuracy across temperature and supply variations. The wide common-mode range allows it to monitor currents on high-voltage rails without level shifting, simplifying system design. The 1.1MHz bandwidth enables fast transient response, which is critical for detecting overcurrent conditions in real time.
Typical applications include high-side current sensing in power supplies, battery management systems, motor control, and load switches. In space applications, it is used for power monitoring in satellites and spacecraft, where reliability and precision are paramount. The device's wide common-mode range and low power consumption make it versatile for both high-voltage and low-power systems.
When designing with the INA950-SEP, ensure that the shunt resistor is placed in the high-side path and that the common-mode voltage does not exceed the absolute maximum rating. Proper PCB layout with Kelvin connections to the shunt resistor is essential to minimize parasitic resistance and maintain measurement accuracy.

Notes de conception
For accurate current sensing, use Kelvin connections to the shunt resistor to minimize parasitic resistance. Place the shunt resistor close to the INA950-SEP inputs (IN+ and IN-) and route the traces as a differential pair. Keep the sense lines short and shielded to reduce noise pickup. A ground plane under the device helps reduce thermal and electrical noise.
The INA950-SEP operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V supply. Bypass the VS pin with a 0.1µF ceramic capacitor placed as close as possible to the pin. For noisy environments, add a 10µF capacitor in parallel. Ensure the supply voltage is stable and within the absolute maximum ratings to avoid damage.
Do not exceed the common-mode voltage range of 80V. Exceeding this can damage the device. Also, ensure the shunt resistor value is chosen to keep the differential input voltage within the linear range of the amplifier. For high-side sensing, the common-mode voltage is the supply rail, so verify it stays within 2.7V to 80V.
