TJA1024HG Présentation
A LIN (Local Interconnect Network) transceiver is a physical-layer (PHY) interface IC that converts the digital UART/LIN protocol logic of a microcontroller into the single-wire LIN bus voltage/dominance signalling required by in-vehicle subnetworks. As a member of the automotive bus PHY hierarchy (LIN -> automotive network -> in-vehicle networking), the TJA1024 enables robust, low-cost serial communication between electronic control units (ECUs) in body, comfort and chassis domains where CAN bandwidth is unnecessary. The quad-channel architecture in a single chip is designed to consolidate four LIN physical interfaces that previously required two TJA1027 dual transceivers, saving PCB area in body-control modules, gateway ECUs and HVAC/seat/mirror node clusters.
Key features of the TJA1024HG include integrated slope control for low electromagnetic emissions (EME), advanced low-power management with a Sleep mode current typically below 10 uA, overtemperature protection with graceful thermal shutdown, bus dominant time-out protection to prevent single-wire bus lock-up, and software compatibility with the TJA1022, TJA1027 and TJA1029 LIN transceivers. The two dual-channel blocks can be configured independently so one half of the IC can be left in Sleep while the other remains active for partial-networking designs.
The TJA1024HG uses a bipolar/BiCMOS output stage that delivers up to 2.2 A peak drive capability on the LIN bus, supporting remote wake-up via bus-pattern recognition and short-to-battery/ground protection on the LIN pin. Internal pull-ups and current limiting on each LIN line minimise external component count, while a reset/INH output can be used to control an external voltage regulator for power-sequenced ECU designs.
Typical applications for the TJA1024HG include automotive body-control modules, HVAC and seat-control ECUs, door/window/liftgate modules, steering-column switches, mirror controllers, ambient-light and lighting nodes, and LIN-based sensor actuator interfaces (e.g. smart MOSFET pre-drivers, rain/light sensors). Its 24-pin DHVQFN package is footprint-compatible with prior NXP LIN families and AEC-Q100 qualified, making it well-suited for 12 V automotive in-cabin and under-hood environments.
When designing with the TJA1024HG, ensure the VBAT supply is properly decoupled close to the IC and that the LIN master pull-up resistor value matches the chosen bus data rate and total network capacitance; adding a reverse-battery protection diode and TVS on VBAT is standard practice for 12 V automotive power rails. Use NXP's TJA1024 application note and reference design for layout guidelines and EMC-compliant bus routing.

Applications typiques
TJA1024HG convient pour 6 applications: Automotive Body Control Module (BCM), HVAC and Seat Control ECU, Door / Window / Liftgate Module, Steering Column Switch Cluster, Ambient Lighting / LED LIN Nodes, In-Vehicle LIN Gateway / Sensor Hub.
Automotive Body Control Module (BCM)
The TJA1024HG provides four LIN channels in a single 24-pin DHVQFN package, making it a high-density fit for body-control modules consolidating multiple LIN sub-networks (door locks, mirrors, lighting, wipers). Each of the two dual-LIN blocks operates independently with separate enable and Sleep modes, allowing partial networking where only one LIN domain is active while the BCM sleeps at < 10 uA. AEC-Q100 qualification and 40 V load-dump tolerance cover 12 V body electrical environments, and the integrated 2.2 A slope-controlled bus drive eliminates the need for external LIN drivers.
Recommandé
HVAC and Seat Control ECU
Climate-control and seat-adjustment ECUs typically require 3-4 LIN channels for the blower, stepper drivers, seat motors and occupancy sensor; the TJA1024HG's quad-LIN architecture replaces two dual-channel TJA1027 ICs, reducing PCB area roughly 40 percent. LIN 2.2A compliance supports the latest NXP and third-party smart actuators that need enhanced diagnostics, while SAE J2602 compatibility allows the same hardware to serve North-American OEM HVAC networks. The exposed thermal pad and 31.4 C/W theta_JA dissipate worst-case 2.2 A bus-driver heat into a single ground pour.
Recommandé
Door / Window / Liftgate Module
A door-module ECU commonly drives window lift, mirror adjust, ambient lighting, and lock actuators over separate LIN links. The TJA1024HG delivers four LIN lines plus a WAKE input that can wake the ECU on a LIN bus-pattern from a remote master, enabling ISO 11898-1 partial-networking compliance. The integrated dominant time-out prevents a single shorted LIN wire from locking the entire ECU on the bus, while the INH/Reset output drives an external 5V regulator for sequenced MCU power-up on cold-crank events.
Recommandé
Steering Column Switch Cluster
Modern steering-column switches combine wiper, lighting, turn-signal, infotainment and cruise-control buttons into one LIN-slave node, often requiring 2-4 LIN slaves downstream. The TJA1024HG acts as the LIN master hub with 2.2 A drive that can supply power to multiple slave transceivers via the bus pull-up, and its slope-control minimises radiated emissions over the 1-2 m wiring harness typical of column harnesses. Software compatibility with the TJA1027 lets designers reuse existing LIN driver code, accelerating time-to-production.
Recommandé
Ambient Lighting / LED LIN Nodes
Indoor automotive ambient lighting increasingly uses daisy-chained LIN-controlled LED drivers; the TJA1024HG's four LIN channels can drive up to four independent LED subnetworks from one master ECU. Each channel's 2.2 A drive and 20 kBd data rate comfortably supports 8-16 LEDs per node at the typical 10-bit PWM refresh used for color mixing. Sleep mode below 10 uA lets the entire lighting network idle without draining the 12 V battery during parking, which is critical for modern always-connected vehicles.
Recommandé
In-Vehicle LIN Gateway / Sensor Hub
The TJA1024HG is well-suited as a LIN-side termination on a CAN-to-LIN gateway, exposing 4 LIN channels upstream of a CAN-FD backbone used in zonal architectures. Both dual blocks can be independently switched between Normal and Sleep, so the gateway can shut down sub-networks while maintaining a CAN wake-up path. The NXP part's 40 V load-dump protection and ISO 7637 transient immunity make it compatible with the harsh electrical environment near the vehicle's alternator and battery.

Notes de conception
Place a 100 nF X7R ceramic bypass capacitor as close as possible to the VBAT pin and a 10 uF electrolytic/ceramic bulk capacitor at the IC supply rail to ride through 12 V cold-crank and load-dump transients up to 40 V. The TJA1024HG's internal reverse-battery protection is rated for limited current; for harsh environments add an external series Schottky diode or P-MOSFET reverse-polarity block. The INH/Reset output can drive an external 5V LDO enable pin to gate MCU power and achieve sub-10 uA Sleep current.
Route the LIN bus traces away from switching converter inductors and keep them short and twisted with VBAT to meet ISO 7637-3 and IEC 55803-1 automotive EMC requirements. Connect the exposed thermal pad (pin 24 / centre paddle) to a continuous ground pour of at least 100 mm^2 to keep junction temperature below 150 C at peak 2.2 A bus drive. Decouple each LIN pin to ground with a reverse-biased ESD diode (e.g. PESD1LIN) within 5 mm of the connector.
Do not connect TXDx pins directly to a 5V UART when the MCU runs at 3.3V - use a 1 kohm/2 kohm resistive divider or logic-level translator to keep TXD below 3.3V. Do not exceed the maximum VBAT of 27 V continuous or 40 V transient; sustained over-voltage can damage the internal regulator. When only one dual block is used, leave the unused TXD/RXD/EN/WAKE/LIN pins tied to known states per the datasheet (TXD low, EN high) to avoid floating-bus false wake-ups.
At continuous 2.2 A LIN bus drive the TJA1024HG may dissipate up to 1.5 W in worst-case short-circuit conditions; the DHVQFN-24 has theta_JA around 31 C/W on a 4-layer 2 oz JEDEC board. Estimated: with 100 mm^2 copper pour, junction temperature rise is roughly 31 C/W x 1.5 W = 46.5 C above ambient; ensure ambient stays below ~80 C so junction remains below 125 C. Add a thermal via array under the exposed pad for better heat spreading in high-ambient ECU locations.
