TCAN1472-Q1 概要
A CAN (Controller Area Network) transceiver is the physical-layer interface between a CAN protocol controller (typically an MCU or ASIC) and the differential CAN bus wiring. It converts the controller's TX/RX logic-level signals to the bus's dominant/recessive differential voltages and adds bus-side protection, fault detection, and EMC filtering. SIC is an optional extension layer that actively reshapes the bus waveform to reduce ringing on long stubs and high-speed topologies, allowing faster bit rates (up to 8 Mbps with CAN FD) on networks that previously had to slow down for signal integrity reasons.
Key features of the TCAN1472-Q1 include: support for classical CAN and CAN FD up to 8 Mbps with active SIC; ±58 V (typ.) fault-protected CAN bus pins; IEC 61000-4-2 ESD rating of ±8 kV contact / ±15 kV air on bus pins; low-current standby mode with remote wake-up via bus; and an operating voltage range of 4.5 V to 28 V (load-dump tolerant up to 40 V). 'V'-suffix variants (e.g. TCAN1472VDRQ1, TCAN1472VDFFRQ1) include a VIO logic-level supply pin so the device can interface directly with 1.8 V / 2.5 V / 3.3 V MCUs without external level shifters.
The device integrates a 3.3 V / 5 V tolerant reference output, thermal shutdown, driver-dominant time-out, and under-voltage lockout on both VCC and VIO. Its bus-side hardware meets ISO 11898-2:2024 Annex A (SIC), ISO 11898-2:2016, and SAE J2284, making it drop-in compatible with existing 8-pin CAN FD footprints such as TCAN1042-Q1 and TCAN1044A-Q1 while adding the SIC waveform improvement stage.
Typical applications include automotive body and chassis ECUs (BCM, gateway, HVAC, lighting), ADAS sensor fusion ECUs, xEV battery-management and powertrain controllers, industrial CAN networks with long stub lengths, and any automotive CAN FD node that needs to coexist with classical CAN on the same bus. The wide supply range also makes the part well suited for 12 V and 24 V truck and off-road CAN bus systems.
When designing with the TCAN1472-Q1, place a 100 nF decoupling capacitor as close as possible to VCC and (on V-suffix parts) VIO, and a 4.7 µF or larger bulk capacitor on the bus-side CAN supply. On long-stub networks, leave SIC enabled to suppress reflections; on point-to-point links SIC can be turned off for the lowest loop delay. Always verify that the chosen package thermal pad layout matches the 8-pin SOIC land pattern.

主な用途
TCAN1472-Q1 の用途: 6 件s: Automotive Body & Chassis ECUs, ADAS Sensor Fusion ECUs, xEV Battery-Management Systems, 12 V / 24 V Truck and Off-Road CAN, Industrial CAN Networks with Long Stubs, Automotive Gateway ECUs.
Automotive Body & Chassis ECUs
The TCAN1472-Q1's ±58 V bus fault protection and 4.5 V–28 V supply range (load-dump tolerant to 40 V) make it well suited to body control modules, HVAC controllers, lighting ECUs and chassis nodes where the CAN bus is wired across the vehicle harness. With ISO 11898-2:2024 Annex A SIC, body ECUs can stay at 8 Mbps CAN FD even on long stub branches inside a door or behind an instrument panel where reflections would otherwise force a 2 Mbps fallback. AEC-Q100 qualification and Functional Safety-Capable documentation ease integration with iso 26262 toolchains used by body ECU Tier-1s.
おすすめ
ADAS Sensor Fusion ECUs
Sensor-fusion ECUs for ADAS (radar front-end, surround-view ECU, domain controllers) typically aggregate payloads from multiple radar and camera CAN FD nodes over long harness runs. The TCAN1472-Q1's active SIC removes ringing on those long branches so the ECU can read 8 Mbps CAN FD sensor streams cleanly, while its ±8 kV contact / ±15 kV air ESD on the bus pins (per IEC 61000-4-2) gives extra margin when the harness is exposed to transients during parking manoeuvres. Combined with the VIO logic shift on V-suffix variants, the part talks directly to 1.8 V domain-controller MCUs without external level shifters.
おすすめ
xEV Battery-Management Systems
Battery-management units (BMUs) in electric vehicles need a robust CAN transceiver that runs directly from the 12 V auxiliary bus, survives load-dump transients from invertors and tolerates the noisy environment around high-current cabling. The TCAN1472-Q1's 40 V load-dump tolerance, ±58 V bus-fault protection and low standby current (under 25 µA) let a BMU node stay CAN-active in shipping mode and wake on bus traffic. SIC preserves 8 Mbps CAN FD on the long daisy-chain runs typical of modular battery packs, reducing cell-balancing firmware-update time.
おすすめ
12 V / 24 V Truck and Off-Road CAN
Heavy-duty trucks, agriculture and construction machines use 24 V bus rails to which the TCAN1472-Q1 connects directly because its 28 V continuous / 40 V transient supply window covers the full truck-battery envelope with margin. SIC prevents the reflections that plague long cable harnesses around an articulated machine body, and the AEC-Q100 grade lets tier-1 suppliers reuse a single BOM across passenger car and heavy-duty programmes. The device's standby mode supports remote wake-up over the bus so dormant nodes can be queried without waking the entire ECU.
おすすめ
Industrial CAN Networks with Long Stubs
Industrial CAN-FD networks inside machines, robots and renewable-energy plants often must include star or branch points to connect distributed I/O. The TCAN1472-Q1's ISO 11898-2:2024 Annex A SIC keeps those branches ringing-free at 8 Mbps, avoiding the link-down conditions that an HS-CAN-only part would force. AEC-Q100 grade gives extra reliability head-room in harsh-temperature cabinets even when the broader system is not automotive. VIO logic-level shifting on V-suffix parts lets the same transceiver sit next to legacy 3.3 V microcontrollers or modern 1.8 V application processors.
おすすめ
Automotive Gateway ECUs
Central and zonal gateway ECUs fan CAN-FD traffic between sub-networks and aggregate it for an Ethernet or PCIe uplink. The TCAN1472-Q1 lets those gateways run 8 Mbps CAN FD on stub-heavy sub-networks without bit-rate reductions while still meeting ISO 11898-2:2024 Annex A in production vehicles. Functional Safety-Capable documentation and the dominant-time-out protection simplify gateway-level safe-state design, and the small 8-SOIC footprint supports high port-count gateway modules in compact housings. AEC-Q100 grade is accepted by all major Tier-1 gateway suppliers.

設計ノート
Place a 100 nF X7R decoupling capacitor as close as physically possible to VCC (pin 3) and, on V-suffix variants, VIO (pin 5). Add a 4.7 µF or larger bulk decoupling capacitor on VCC within 5 mm of the package; this stable bulk rail is essential for the SIC clocked edge-shaper to keep its edge-rate reference accurate. The VIO rail should have its own 100 nF cap adjacent to pin 5 even when the same supply also feeds MCU I/O. Under-voltage on either VCC or VIO disables the driver, so the brown-out behaviour of your upstream regulator directly determines whether the bus segment stays recessive during a crank-dip.
Route the CANH and CANL traces as a closely-coupled differential pair on the top layer over a continuous ground pour, with 120 Ω characteristic impedance and a single split termination (60 Ω in series with a 4.7 nF cap to ground at each end of the bus) when long stubs are present. Keep total bus stubs shorter than the bit-period / 10 rule of thumb - SIC handles longer stubs than HS-CAN but does not relax the basic transmission-line constraints. Avoid placing the transceiver near switching DC-DC or motor-driver nodes; SI on CAN FD is set by edge-rate cleanliness, and 10 cm of un-shielded harness next to a 10 A motor bridge will fold noise directly into the bus voltage window.
Estimated: the 8-SOIC (D) variant has a θJA around 130 °C/W on a standard 2-layer JEDEC board, while the 8-SO PowerPAD (DRB) variant drops to roughly 50 °C/W thanks to its exposed thermal pad tied to GND. For high-ambient (>105 °C) under-hood installations, prefer TCAN1472VDRBRQ1 and solder the exposed pad to a 1 cm² copper pour on both top and inner layers. Always check the actual θJA against your board stack-up using TI's thermal model rather than relying on the JEDEC number alone.
When SIC is enabled (default after power-up), the transceiver inserts a small delay between detecting a rising edge and re-driving the bus - on the order of a few hundred nanoseconds. This delay is transparent at 500 kbps but at 8 Mbps CAN FD it represents approximately 3 bit-times, which is what allows long stubs to ring freely without disrupting decoding. If the host application is on a tightly-timed bus where deterministic propagation delay is critical, SIC can be disabled per-bit via the host controller's bit-time setup, but doing so restores HS-CAN restrictions on stub length.
Do not leave pin 5 (VIO on V-suffix variants) floating - the device assumes a valid logic reference and a missing supply holds the digital outputs in an indeterminate state. Do not place a common-mode choke in series with CANH/CANL when SIC is enabled: the additional series inductance interacts with SIC's edge-shaping and can over-attenuate the bus signal. Finally, confirm the polarity of pin 8 (STB); the TCAN1472-Q1 standby is active-low, the opposite of some older TI CAN parts - pulling STB high is required for normal mode.
