Typical Applications
TLE4252DATMA1 is suitable for 6 applications: Automotive Sensor Power Supply, Engine Control Unit Sub-Rail, Body and Chassis Controller, Industrial 24 V Sensor Conditioning, Off-Board Sensor Supply with Remote Reference, Automotive Infotainment Auxiliary Rail.
Automotive Sensor Power Supply
The TLE4252DATMA1 delivers a tightly tracked voltage to off-board sensors that share the ECU ground reference. Its tracking topology forces VOUT to follow the ADJ reference within Β±2 mV, eliminating level-shifting amplifiers for remote sensor loads. With 250 mA current capability, the part can power multiple sensor loads or a small signal-conditioning block from a single rail. The 40 V input range tolerates 12 V automotive load-dump transients without external clamping.
Recommended
Engine Control Unit Sub-Rail
The TLE4252DATMA1 provides a clean, reverse-polarity-protected 5 V (or adjustable) sub-rail inside an ECU that must remain stable during cold-crank and load-dump events. Its 200 mV dropout at 100 mA holds regulation when the 12 V battery sags to 6 V during engine start. The AEC-Q100 qualification and -40 Β°C to +150 Β°C junction rating cover under-hood environments. Integrated status output drives a fault flag back to the microcontroller for diagnostics.
Recommended
Body and Chassis Controller
Body controller modules (BCM) for lighting, door, and seat control need reliable low-current rails fed directly from the 12 V battery. The TLE4252DATMA1 handles the 40 V load-dump envelope and integrates reverse-polarity protection that survives accidental reverse-battery events during service. Its 60 Β΅A quiescent current keeps standby drain minimal on always-on BCM rails, and the enable pin allows the MCU to switch the regulator in and out of low-power states.
Recommended
Industrial 24 V Sensor Conditioning
In factory automation, 24 V PLC sensor rails often need a precise sub-rail that follows the analog backplane reference. The TLE4252DATMA1 tracks an external 5 V or 10 V reference with Β±2 mV accuracy, generating a stable 24 V-compatible sub-rail without a level-shifting amplifier. Its 40 V input withstands 24 V industrial transients, and the DPAK-5 package dissipates moderate power on a small footprint for DIN-rail-mounted I/O modules.
Recommended
Off-Board Sensor Supply with Remote Reference
The TLE4252DATMA1 is purpose-built for sensor heads located away from the ECU where the supply must track the ECU reference through long cable runs. The tracking topology cancels ground offsets between ECU and sensor, producing a clean, regulated rail at the sensor end. Integrated reverse-polarity protection on the input prevents damage from mis-wiring during harness assembly - a common failure mode in production.
Recommended
Automotive Infotainment Auxiliary Rail
Infotainment head units and telematic modules need auxiliary rails that remain stable during cranking. The TLE4252DATMA1 produces a low-noise tracking rail from the 12 V battery rail that stays in regulation down to ~5.2 V at the input - ideal for keeping a small MCU or audio DSP rail alive during engine cranking. Its 60 Β΅A quiescent current minimizes drain on the battery when the infotainment module is in standby.

Design Notes
At VIN = 13.5 V, VOUT = 5 V, and 250 mA continuous load, the regulator dissipates approximately (13.5 - 5) Γ 0.25 = 2.1 W. Estimated: with theta_JA around 60 Β°C/W for the DPAK-5 package on 1 cmΒ² of copper, junction rise is 2.1 W Γ 60 Β°C/W β 126 Β°C above ambient. Use at least 2-3 cmΒ² of copper on the exposed tab, and keep ambient below 70 Β°C for sustained full load at the 150 Β°C junction limit.
Place the input bulk capacitor as close as possible to the IN pin to suppress load-dump ringing. A 10 Β΅F ceramic + 47 Β΅F aluminum combination on the input is recommended for 12 V automotive rails. The output capacitor value depends on the ADJ reference impedance - typically 1 Β΅F to 22 Β΅F ceramic ESR < 1 Ξ© maintains loop stability. Connect the exposed tab to a copper pour that is electrically bonded to GND per the datasheet.
Do not exceed the 40 V absolute-maximum input voltage, even momentarily - load-dump pulses on 12 V automotive rails can reach 35-40 V. Verify the STATUS pin pull-up voltage does not exceed the host MCU's input rating (open-drain output can be pulled to any rail up to 40 V). Ensure the ADJ reference is low-impedance: a high-impedance reference degrades tracking accuracy and can cause oscillation.
Route the GND pin directly to the ground copper pour - avoid sharing GND paths with high-current switching nodes. Keep the ADJ trace short and shielded from switching noise to preserve the Β±2 mV tracking accuracy. For off-board sensor applications, ensure the cable shield is bonded to GND at the ECU end only to prevent ground loops.
