TLIN829-Q1 Visão geral
What is a LIN transceiver? A LIN (Local Interconnect Network) transceiver is a physical-layer (PHY) device that connects a microcontroller's UART-style logic domain to a single-wire, low-cost automotive communication bus. It typically integrates a wave-shaping transmitter, a comparator-based receiver, bus fault protection (against shorts to battery, ground, and adjacent LIN nodes), ESD protection, and a low-power wake-up mechanism. LIN sits hierarchically under in-vehicle networking alongside CAN (Controller Area Network), FlexRay, and Automotive Ethernet - LIN targets low-speed, low-cost nodes like door modules, mirror adjusters, and seat controllers, while CAN/Ethernet handle higher-bandwidth powertrain and ADAS domains.
Key features include: integrated dominant-state timeout for fail-safe bus recovery, ±45V LIN bus fault tolerance (load-dump tolerant), ±15kV HBM ESD on the LIN pin per IEC 61000-4-2, ultra-low quiescent current in sleep mode, thermal shutdown, and an active-high WAKE input that wakes the device from sleep without MCU intervention. The part supports both 3.3V and 5V MCU logic via a separate VCC/VSUP rail scheme. The 8-pin SOIC (D) and 8-pin SON (DRB 3x3) packages provide small footprint for space-constrained body-electronics modules.
Typical applications include automotive body control modules (BCM), HVAC control, door/window/seat modules, steering column controls, rain/light sensors, mirror adjusters, headlamp leveling, and interior lighting nodes. The part's AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification (-40C to +125C) makes it suited for underhood and cabin applications alike.
Designers should ensure proper LIN bus termination (typically a master pull-up of 1kΩ plus a diode to VSUP, and a slave pull-up of 30kΩ in the device), use a 100nF X7R decoupling capacitor close to VSUP, and route the LIN trace as a short, stub-free single-ended line, twisted if possible, to minimize radiated emissions. The dominant-state timeout is configurable; refer to the datasheet's register or strap-setting description for the chosen mode.

Aplicações típicas
TLIN829-Q1 é adequado para 6 aplicaçãos: Automotive Body Control Module (BCM), HVAC Control Module, Door / Window / Seat Module, Steering Column / Mirror Adjuster, Rain/Light Sensor Module, Interior Lighting / Ambient Lighting Node.
Automotive Body Control Module (BCM)
The TLIN829-Q1 fits BCM designs because its 5.5V-28V VSUP range directly accepts the 12V automotive battery rail without external regulation, while its ±45V LIN bus fault tolerance protects against load-dump transients. The integrated dominant-state timeout prevents a software bug from locking the bus low, which would silently disable every LIN-attached load in the vehicle. With 20kbps LIN 2.x compliance and 100kbps fast in-line programming, the same transceiver serves both production communication and end-of-line firmware updates, eliminating a separate programming channel. Recommended companion products: MSPM0G3507 automotive MCU (LIN master), TPS3823 voltage supervisor, TLV9062 general-purpose op-amp for sensor buffering.
Recomendado
HVAC Control Module
HVAC head units and blower regulators use LIN to drive stepper motors, NTC temperature sensors, and recirculation flaps because LIN is far cheaper than CAN for sub-networks. The TLIN829-Q1's low sleep-mode quiescent current (per datasheet, in the microamp range) preserves battery life when the vehicle is parked, while its WAKE pin allows the climate control to wake on key-fob unlock or CAN-LIN gateway command without MCU intervention. AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification ensures operation from -40°C to +125°C under the dashboard thermal envelope. Recommended companion products: DRV8870 motor driver, TMP117 temperature sensor, MSPM0L1306 low-power MCU.
Recomendado
Door / Window / Seat Module
Door modules integrate window lift, mirror adjuster, door-lock solenoid, and puddle lamp, all of which are excellent LIN slave candidates. The TLIN829-Q1's 8-pin SON (DRB 3x3) package fits the tight door-module PCB, and its integrated LIN bus fault tolerance (±45V) survives the harsh transients produced by window-lift motor commutator arcing. The fault-protected LIN pin means no external TVS diode is required, reducing BOM cost. Recommended companion products: DRV8701 window motor driver, MSPM0C1104 small MCU, TPS22918 load switch for lamp control.
Recomendado
Steering Column / Mirror Adjuster
Mirror adjuster and steering-column switch modules are LIN slaves to the BCM. The TLIN829-Q1's small SON footprint fits the constrained PCB area inside the steering column, while its 3.3V or 5V VCC flexibility lets the module pair with low-cost MCUs at either logic level. The integrated dominant-state timeout is critical here because stuck-dominant LIN would prevent the BCM from polling other modules on the same LIN sub-net. Recommended companion products: MSPM0L1306 MCU, DRV2605 haptic driver (for steering wheel feedback), TLV9062 op-amp.
Recomendado
Rain/Light Sensor Module
Rain-light sensors mount on the windshield and connect to the BCM via LIN for optical data and I2C/SPI for configuration. The TLIN829-Q1's low-power sleep mode is ideal because the sensor must remain in low-quiescent standby while the ignition is off, then wake quickly when the BCM polls. The 100kbps fast in-line programming mode lets the OEM reflash the sensor's algorithm via the LIN bus during EOL calibration. Recommended companion products: OPT3001 ambient light sensor, MSP430FR2355 ultra-low-power MCU.
Recomendado
Interior Lighting / Ambient Lighting Node
Modern vehicles use LIN-attached RGB LED drivers for ambient lighting interior, driven by a master BCM that commands color and brightness per zone. The TLIN829-Q1's 20kbps LIN bandwidth is sufficient for color/brightness updates and offers lower cost than CAN for this low-speed lighting network. The integrated fault protection prevents bus damage during lamp-driver short events, and the 8-pin SOIC package is friendly to high-volume SMT lines producing millions of nodes per year. Recommended companion products: LP8860S LED driver, MSPM0C1104 MCU, TLC59401 PWM driver.

Notas de projeto
Place a 100nF X7R ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to the VSUP pin (pin 7) and a separate 100nF X7R cap on the VCC pin (pin 3). For battery-reversal protection, add a 100Ω PTC or Schottky diode (e.g., SS34) in series with VSUP; the TLIN829-Q1's internal ESD/fault network assumes VSUP polarity is correct. Bulk capacitance on VSUP (10µF to 47µF aluminum polymer) is recommended to absorb load-dump energy beyond the ±45V LIN-pin tolerance window.
Route the LIN trace (pin 8) as a short, single-ended, stub-free line on the top or bottom layer, ideally directly above/below a continuous ground plane. Avoid routing LIN near noisy switchers or motor-driver traces; if a parallel run is unavoidable, maintain ≥3mm spacing or place a ground guard trace between them. The 8-pin SON (DRB 3x3) package uses the center pad as thermal/ground bond - stitch at least 4 vias from this pad to the inner ground layer for low-impedance return and thermal dissipation.
Do not omit the master-node pull-up: in a TLIN829-Q1 LIN master the external 1kΩ pull-up plus reverse-blocking diode to VSUP is mandatory, because the transceiver's internal 30kΩ slave pull-up alone cannot meet the LIN master's 1kΩ dominant-state drive requirement. Also ensure the LIN bus is not terminated to ground anywhere - a missing termination leaves the bus floating during recessive state and may cause false wake events. Finally, do not connect WAKE (pin 5) to a constant high or low during normal operation; route it through an RC debounce if driven by a mechanical switch.
For in-line programming (100kbps fast mode), the LIN bus edge rate is much steeper than 20kbps LIN and is more sensitive to capacitance. Keep LIN bus total capacitance (cable + ESD + connectors) below 2nF as required by ISO 17987-4; the TLIN829-Q1's wave-shaping driver is designed for that envelope. Adding a series ferrite bead (600Ω at 100MHz) near the connector can suppress common-mode emissions without violating the bus capacitance budget.
