MPXV5004GP Обзор
A pressure sensor is a transducer that converts an applied pressure into a proportional electrical signal. The MPXV5004GP uses an implanted strain gauge on a micromachined silicon diaphragm, with thin-film metallization and bipolar signal-conditioning circuitry integrated on the same die. Within the broader taxonomy, the device sits as: pressure sensor -> piezoresistive sensor -> MEMS sensor -> sensor IC -> semiconductor. Its key role is to provide a calibrated, ratiometric (or absolute, depending on configuration) analog voltage that a microcontroller's ADC can read directly without external compensation.
Key features include 1 V/kPa nominal sensitivity (1 V at 0 kPa, 4.9 V at 3.92 kPa), 4.75 V to 5.25 V supply range, integrated temperature compensation over 0 to 85 C, and a typical response time suitable for airflow and medical-respiration monitoring. The device is AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive applications and is part of the MPxx5004 family alongside the differential MPXV5004DP and the lower-pressure MPVZ5004G variants.
Typical applications include HVAC airflow monitoring, respiratory airflow sensing for sleep-apnea and ventilator equipment, industrial process control, and barometric differential measurement. The 0 to 3.92 kPa range maps directly to typical CPAP/airflow channel pressures, making it a long-time industry standard.
When designing with the MPXV5004GP, place 100 nF decoupling capacitors close to VDD and GND, route analog output through a guarded trace, and avoid mechanical stress on the port during PCB assembly. Note that the MPXV5004GP is in NXP End-of-Life status; designers of new products should evaluate the MPXV5004GP successor or the cross-brand XGZP6887A as a drop-in alternative.

Типичное применение
MPXV5004GP подходит для 6 применениеs: Medical CPAP / Ventilator Airflow Sensing, HVAC Airflow and Duct Pressure Monitoring, Sleep Apnea / Snore Diagnostic Equipment, Industrial Process Low-Pressure Monitoring, Automotive Air-Management / MAP-Low Sensing, Portable Respiratory Flow Meters.
Medical CPAP / Ventilator Airflow Sensing
The MPXV5004GP is a long-standing standard sensor for CPAP machine airflow and ventilator pressure-channel measurement. Its 0 to 3.92 kPa range maps directly to the typical airway pressure envelope (1 to 40 cm H2O), and the 1 V/kPa sensitivity gives a clean 1.0 V to 4.9 V analog signal that the machine's microcontroller ADC reads directly. The integrated temperature compensation over 0 to 85 C holds accuracy across the warming airstream in humidified CPAP circuits, and the ratiometric analog output avoids the need for a precision ADC reference. In a typical design the MPXV5004GP sits on a small PCB manifold between the blower and the patient mask, with a 100 nF decoupling cap on VDD and a guarded analog trace to the ADC input; AEC-Q100 qualification also helps designers targeting IEC 60601-1 medical safety platforms.

HVAC Airflow and Duct Pressure Monitoring
In HVAC variable-air-volume (VAV) boxes and duct static-pressure sensing, the MPXV5004GP provides a calibrated 0 to 3.92 kPa readout that maps well to the 0 to 1.6 inH2O range used in commercial airflow controllers. The piezoresistive MEMS die is stable across the 0 to 85 C operating range typical of conditioned air plenums, and the side-port package accepts a flexible tube routed into the duct. A microcontroller reads VOUT, computes flow using the standard orifice-plate equation, and modulates the damper actuator. Compared with discrete airflow sensors, the MPXV5004GP eliminates external compensation components and shortens design-in time.

Sleep Apnea / Snore Diagnostic Equipment
Consumer and clinical sleep-apnea diagnostic devices use the MPXV5004GP to detect nasal cannula pressure swings during inhalation and exhalation. The 0 to 3.92 kPa range easily covers the small pressure amplitudes (a few Pa to ~1 kPa) produced by breathing, and the sensor's low noise floor lets the system pick up subtle flow-limitation events that indicate obstructive events. The analog output is sampled at a few hundred Hz by an ADC, then digitally filtered to derive breath rate, tidal volume estimates, and snore signatures. Compact SOP-8 packaging fits inside the small bedside form factor of modern home sleep-test devices.

Industrial Process Low-Pressure Monitoring
Industrial process control loops often need to measure low gauge pressures in clean-air, vacuum, or low-pressure gas lines, where the MPXV5004GP's 0 to 3.92 kPa range and 1 V/kPa output are well matched. Examples include cleanroom differential pressure verification, vacuum-line monitoring on semiconductor tools, and gas-flow verification in analytical instruments. The on-chip ASIC conditioning means the sensor produces a stable, repeatable voltage without external trimming, simplifying calibration in volume production. The AEC-Q100 automotive-grade pedigree also gives industrial designers extra confidence in long-term reliability.

Automotive Air-Management / MAP-Low Sensing
Although engine manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensors typically run to 100 kPa, the MPXV5004GP's AEC-Q100 qualification and 5 V ratiometric analog output make it suitable for low-pressure automotive air-management tasks such as cabin HVAC duct pressure, EV battery-cooling airflow verification, and fuel-tank vapor-recovery system monitoring. The piezoresistive MEMS die is qualified to automotive temperature and vibration profiles, and the SOP-8 package is compatible with reflow soldering on automotive PCB lines. AEC-Q100 Grade 3 (0 to +85 C) qualification aligns with cabin-environment requirements.

Portable Respiratory Flow Meters
Hand-held and peak-flow respiratory devices benefit from the MPXV5004GP's small footprint, 5 V single-supply operation, and calibrated analog output that pairs with low-cost battery-powered microcontrollers. Peak expiratory flow (PEF) meters, incentive spirometers, and home asthma monitors can use the MPXV5004GP as the front-end pressure transducer, with the analog output digitized by the MCU's ADC and displayed on an LCD or transmitted over BLE. The 0 to 85 C operating range covers typical handheld-device thermal environments, and the low 10 mA typical supply current keeps battery drain modest.

Заметки по проектированию
Place a 100 nF ceramic decoupling capacitor as close as possible to the VDD pin (pin 1) and a bulk capacitor (1 uF to 10 uF) at the supply rail. Use a clean, low-noise 5 V LDO to power the sensor - switching regulator ripple couples directly into the analog output and degrades measurement resolution. Tie both GND pins (3 and 4) to a low-impedance ground pour to keep the ratiometric output stable across load variation.
Route the analog output (pin 2) as a guarded differential trace on a separate analog ground, kept away from switching nodes, PWM lines, and digital signal traces. Place the sensor at the edge of the PCB so the side port can accept the pressure tube without mechanical stress on the package. Avoid routing high-current traces near the port to prevent thermally-induced offset drift.
Do not assume the offset is exactly 1.000 V across the full operating range - the datasheet specifies offset tolerance and temperature drift; calibrate the 0 kPa reading in firmware during production. Do not occlude the gauge vent (the opposite side of the port) - blocking the vent changes the pressure reference and causes gross measurement errors. Do not bend the side port tube during assembly as it can crack the MEMS die.
Self-heating of the MPXV5004GP is minimal (<10 mA typical supply current), but warm airflow over the package can cause offset drift of a few mV. In CPAP/ventilator applications, locate the sensor downstream of any heating elements so that warm bias air does not flow directly across the package, and include a software temperature-compensation step using an on-board thermistor if the application runs near the +85 C limit.
