LPC2364FBD100K Overview

The NXP LPC2364FBD100K is an ARM7 LPC2300-series 16-bit/32-bit microcontroller operating at 72 MHz with 128 KB of on-chip flash memory and 34 KB of SRAM, housed in a 100-pin LQFP (14 x 14 mm) gull-wing package rated for industrial temperature. It integrates an Ethernet MAC, a USB 2.0 device/host/OTG controller, two CAN channels, four UARTs and an 8-channel 10-bit ADC, making it a single-chip solution for networked embedded control equipment.

A microcontroller (MCU) is a complete single-chip computer containing a CPU core, program memory, data memory and a set of on-chip peripherals. The LPC2364FBD100K is built around the ARM7TDMI-S core, an older 32-bit RISC architecture that executes 32-bit code through a 128-bit-wide memory interface and an accelerator structure, reaching the maximum clock rate while keeping interrupt latency predictable. In the taxonomy, an MCU is a microcontroller, a type of embedded processor, falling under semiconductors and integrated circuits.

Key features of this part include 128 KB of flash for In-System Programming and In-Application Programming, 34 KB of SRAM, a 10 Mbit/100 Mbit-capable Ethernet MAC with dedicated DMA channels, USB 2.0 device, host and OTG operation, two CAN 2.0B controllers, three SSP/SPI channels, three I2C channels, an I2S interface, a 10-bit DAC, two PWM channels, four general-purpose timers and a general-purpose DMA controller. A 10-bit ADC with eight channels supports analog sensor front ends.

The LPC2300 architecture separates the ARM7TDMI-S core from the peripherals, and the accelerator lets the core execute 32-bit code at full speed while the 128-bit memory bus sustains simultaneous instruction fetches and DMA transfers. The part accepts an external crystal or oscillator up to 72 MHz and supports PLL-based clock generation, with typical power consumption in the tens of milliwatts at active operation and far lower figures in sleep or power-down modes.

Typical applications include industrial Ethernet data loggers and gateways, USB-to-CAN industrial bridges, networked PLC and HMI controller boards, motor and stepper control peripherals, building and access-control panels, and USB-connected test and measurement instruments. Any design needing simultaneous Ethernet, USB and CAN traffic on one chip benefits from integrating three protocol engines instead of adding discrete controllers.

When laying out the board, keep the 25 MHz or 12 MHz crystal and its load capacitors within a few millimeters of pins OSC1 and OSC2, route the Ethernet magnetic-link and line transformer signals as a controlled-impedance differential pair, and place the Ethernet PHY and its 1.2 V core regulator close to the MCU. The LQFP-100 footprint has a fine 0.5 mm pitch, so confirm solder mask and paste stencil parameters before volume production.

This page combines manufacturer specification data, distributor pricing structure, same-footprint drop-in alternatives from the LPC2300 family and cross-brand ARM Cortex-M equivalents, plus practical layout and design notes that go beyond the basic manufacturer datasheet listing.

Typical Applications

LPC2364FBD100K is suitable for 6 applications: Industrial Ethernet Data Logger and Gateway, USB-to-CAN Industrial Bridge, PLC and HMI Controller Board, Motor and Stepper Control Peripheral, Building Access and Security Panel, USB-Connected Test and Measurement Instrument.

🌐

Industrial Ethernet Data Logger and Gateway

The LPC2364FBD100K suits this class of equipment because it puts an Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0 and a 72 MHz ARM7TDMI-S core in a single 14 x 14 mm LQFP-100, freeing board area for sensor inputs and storage. The on-chip general-purpose DMA transfers logged data to the Ethernet MAC and USB controller without loading the CPU, so sampling and protocol tasks run concurrently. The 8-channel 10-bit ADC captures analog sensor lines directly, while 128 KB of flash and ISP/IAP allow remote firmware update over Ethernet or USB in the field. Typical logger nodes sample a few hundred samples per second and stream them to a supervisory PC, which keeps the design compact and reduces the external component count compared with a discrete Ethernet controller.

🔌

USB-to-CAN Industrial Bridge

A USB-to-CAN bridge needs two independent protocol engines and deterministic message handling, and the LPC2364FBD100K provides USB 2.0 device/host/OTG plus two CAN 2.0B controllers alongside a 72 MHz ARM7TDMI-S core. With 34 KB of SRAM, full CAN message queues fit comfortably in memory, and the general-purpose DMA moves USB traffic with minimal CPU intervention, which matters when several thousand frames per second must be forwarded. The 10-bit DAC and multi-channel ADC are useful for monitoring bridge temperature and supply rails. The 100-lead LQFP package is large enough that a small connector-heavy board remains manufacturable, and ISP/IAP lets the bridge receive gateway firmware updates over the same USB link.

🏭

PLC and HMI Controller Board

Programmable logic and human-machine interface controllers benefit from the LPC2364FBD100K because four UARTs, three I2C channels and three SSP/SPI channels cover displays, keypads, memory cards and expansion boards without extra chips. The 72 MHz ARM7TDMI-S core executes the scan cycle and communications stack from 128 KB of flash, and the 34 KB of SRAM holds the task stacks, ring buffers for serial traffic and the display frame buffer. Two PWM channels and four general-purpose timers drive panel backlight dimming, buzzer timing and stepper-driven front panels. With the industrial temperature grade, the part is suitable for factory-floor enclosure temperatures where consumer-grade parts would drift in performance or fail outright.

⚙️

Motor and Stepper Control Peripheral

Dedicated motion-control peripherals need deterministic timer and PWM resources plus fast serial connectivity, all of which the LPC2364FBD100K provides: four general-purpose timers, two PWM channels, three SSP/SPI channels and a general-purpose DMA controller. The 72 MHz ARM7TDMI-S core handles motion profile computation while the DMA handles encoder or stepper position feedback streams, so the control loop is not starved by bus traffic. The 8-channel 10-bit ADC accepts current-sense and hall-sensor inputs, and the two CAN channels let the drive report status and accept setpoints over a fieldbus. Because the part also carries Ethernet and USB, one board can serve as a networked drive that exposes configuration over USB while running in an EtherCAT-adjacent industrial network.

🔒

Building Access and Security Panel

Access-control and security panels are often networked door controllers that must run continuously on limited power while handling readers, keypads, relays and an alarm bus. The LPC2364FBD100K suits this because the Ethernet MAC and USB 2.0 give wired and maintenance-port connectivity, the two CAN channels suit multi-node lock bus architectures, and the four UARTs drive RFID or 125 kHz reader modules. Deep sleep and power-down modes, with wake from timer or GPIO, cut idle current so the panel can run from a single small supply, and the 10-bit ADC is useful for monitoring the backup battery and door position. The industrial temperature grade covers unheated corridors and outdoor panels.

🖥️

USB-Connected Test and Measurement Instrument

Bench instruments use the LPC2364FBD100K for the same reason they use the other members of the LPC2300 family: a fast core, fast external memory interfacing and USB 2.0 in one package. The general-purpose DMA streams capture buffers from the ADC or from external peripherals to the USB host with minimal CPU involvement, which keeps throughput high even while the firmware manages a display, a keypad and instrument state. USB device, host and OTG modes allow the instrument to read USB memory sticks directly or appear as a peripheral to a host PC. With 128 KB of flash for the instrument application plus boot code, and ISP/IAP over USB for field calibration updates, the design is straightforward to maintain in production and service.

According to the NXP LPC2364/65/66/67/68 datasheet, it combines an ARM7TDMI-S core with an Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0 device/host/OTG controller, two CAN channels, four UARTs, three SSP/SPI channels, three I2C channels, an I2S interface, an 8-channel 10-bit ADC, a 10-bit DAC and four general-purpose timers.
What are the key specifications of LPC2364FBD100K that engineers should know?
The LPC2364FBD100K combines a 72 MHz ARM7TDMI-S core, 128 KB of flash, 34 KB of SRAM and an unusually dense peripheral set in one 14 x 14 mm LQFP-100 package. The NXP datasheet for the LPC2364/65/66/67/68 family lists an Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0 device/host/OTG, two CAN 2.0B controllers, four UARTs, three SSP/SPI and three I2C channels, I2S, an 8-channel 10-bit ADC, a 10-bit DAC, two PWM channels, four general-purpose timers and a general-purpose DMA controller, with ISP/IAP for field firmware updates.
Where can I download the LPC2364FBD100K datasheet PDF?
You can download the LPC2364FBD100K datasheet as a PDF directly from the NXP document library at https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/data-sheet/LPC2364_65_66_67_68.pdf. The manufacturer product page for LPC2364FBD100 at nxp.com/part/LPC2364FBD100 links the same document plus ordering, lifecycle and cross-reference information. NXP also maintains a cross-reference search tool that maps equivalent NXP products and competitor equivalents for the LPC2300 series.
Where can I find the LPC2364FBD100K pinout?
The LPC2364FBD100K pin assignment, LQFP-100 14 x 14 mm outline and pin-1 marker are shown in the pin configuration section of the NXP LPC2364/65/66/67/68 datasheet. The part is a 100-lead gull-wing LQFP with a 0.5 mm lead pitch. Use the pin-description table in that datasheet when assigning PCB tracks, because the Ethernet, USB, CAN and analog pins are interleaved with the port pins on the same 100-pin grid.
What is the difference between LPC2364FBD100 and LPC2364FBD100K?
The trailing K in LPC2364FBD100K designates the industrial temperature grade, while the base LPC2364FBD100 part is specified for a narrower commercial temperature range. Both use the identical 100-pin LQFP (14 x 14 mm) footprint with the same Ethernet, USB, CAN, ADC and DAC pin assignment, so they are electrically pin-to-pin compatible and differ essentially only in temperature qualification and automotive versus industrial screening. Confirm the exact temperature range in the manufacturer ordering information before substituting one for the other.
Can LPC2365FBD100K replace LPC2364FBD100K?
Yes. The LPC2365FBD100K from NXP is a pin-to-pin compatible upgrade in the identical 100-pin LQFP (14 x 14 mm) package, giving you 256 KB of flash and 64 KB of SRAM instead of the LPC2364's 128 KB of flash and 34 KB of SRAM while retaining the same ARM7TDMI-S 72 MHz core, Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0 and dual CAN peripherals. Because flash and SRAM both double, the larger memory footprint can push the internal zero wait-state flash cycle count beyond the LPC2364 optimum, so re-check the memory map and cache/flash wait-state settings in firmware.
Is the STM32F107VCT6 a drop-in replacement for the LPC2364FBD100K?
The STM32F107VCT6 is a pin-compatible alternative for many LPC2364FBD100K designs because it also uses a 100-pin LQFP (0.5 mm pitch) and provides a comparable feature set: ARM Cortex-M3 at 72 MHz, 128 KB of flash, 64 KB of SRAM, Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0 and CAN. It is not a register-compatible substitution: the core architecture, peripheral registers, GPIO naming, clock tree and startup sequence all differ, so the firmware must be ported and the board reviewed pin by pin. Use it for new designs or as a migration path when the LPC2300 supply situation becomes a problem.
When should I choose the LPC2364FBD100K over a larger LPC2366 or LPC2368?
Choose the LPC2364FBD100K when 128 KB of flash and 34 KB of SRAM are sufficient for your firmware and you want the lowest-cost member of the LPC2300 family with the full Ethernet, USB and CAN peripheral set in LQFP-100. Choose LPC2366FBD100K or LPC2368FBD100K when your application needs 512 KB of flash, 64 KB of SRAM or external memory interfacing, since those parts add memory and cost you headroom you may not need. The pin compatibility across the family makes the choice a firmware and BOM decision rather than a layout decision.
What is the best drop-in replacement for the LPC2364FBD100K?
The best same-family drop-in replacement is the LPC2365FBD100K, which keeps the identical 100-pin LQFP (14 x 14 mm) footprint, the ARM7TDMI-S 72 MHz core and the complete Ethernet/USB/CAN peripheral map while doubling flash to 256 KB and SRAM to 64 KB. For a modern redesign, the STM32F107VCT6 and SAM3X8E from other ARM suppliers are cross-brand options in the same 100-pin LQFP, but they use a Cortex-M core, so they require a firmware port rather than a board respin.
How much power does the LPC2364FBD100K consume?
The LPC2364FBD100K operates from a single 3.3 V core supply with separate 3.3 V and 2.5 V analog supplies for the Ethernet PHY interface, and it draws current in the tens of milliamperes at 72 MHz active operation, dropping to microampere-class figures in power-down and deep sleep modes. Exact figures depend on the peripheral set enabled, the flash wait states and the clock tree configuration. Use the DC and AC parameter tables in the manufacturer datasheet for budgeting, and measure on the final board if the design is thermally constrained.
Does the LPC2364FBD100K support USB host and OTG?
Yes. The LPC2364FBD100K includes a full-speed USB 2.0 controller that operates as device, host or OTG, with on-chip DMA and dedicated transceiver interfacing for external PHY or transceiver parts. The NXP LPC2364/65/66/67/68 datasheet documents the USB host, device and OTG operating modes along with the DMA channel assignment for USB traffic. Peripheral sharing rules apply in host and OTG modes, so verify that the selected USB PHY or transceiver part is supported by the device.
What is the LPC2364FBD100K used for in industrial applications?
Industrial designers use the LPC2364FBD100K for networked control equipment because it combines Ethernet, USB and CAN in a single 72 MHz ARM7TDMI-S device. Typical uses include Ethernet data loggers, USB-to-CAN gateways, PLC and HMI controller boards, motor and stepper drive control, access-control and building panels, and connected test instruments. The industrial temperature grade, the 10-bit ADC for analog sensor inputs and the general-purpose DMA for moving data without CPU load are the decisive features in these designs.
What is the LPC2364FBD100K pin count and package?
The LPC2364FBD100K is supplied in a 100-lead LQFP (low-profile quad flat package) with a 14 x 14 mm body and a 0.5 mm lead pitch, in a gull-wing surface-mount form factor. The distributor listing for this part describes it as a 100-LQFP (14 x 14) ARM7 LPC2300 microcontroller, and the package code is LFQFP with a square package shape. Because the 0.5 mm pitch is tight for hand assembly, plan on reflow soldering and verify footprint geometry against the NXP package drawing before layout release.
Where to buy LPC2364FBD100K online?
You can request LPC2364FBD100K stock, pricing and lead time through the Request a Quote form on this page, and the same form handles bulk quantities, scheduled deliveries and sourcing of hard-to-find industrial-grade stock. The manufacturer product page at nxp.com/part/LPC2364FBD100 and the NXP cross-reference tool are useful for confirming lifecycle status and authorized distribution before you commit a design to this part.
What is the lead time for LPC2364FBD100K?
Lead time for the LPC2364FBD100K varies with order quantity and current factory loading, so the current schedule should be confirmed through the Request a Quote form on this page rather than assumed from generic catalogue figures. Because the LPC2300 series is a mature platform with a broad authorized distribution network, industrial quantities are normally supplied from stock, but schedules can lengthen during allocation periods. For safety stock planning, ask for the factory lead time and the distributor stocking position at the same time.
What is the price of the LPC2364FBD100K?
Pricing for the LPC2364FBD100K depends on volume, date of quote and contractual terms, so the current figure is generated on the Request a Quote form on this page. That form returns the quantity-break structure for single units through production volumes in one response, along with stock position and lead time. Comparing an obsolete-marketplace spot price with an authorized factory quote rarely reflects what you will actually pay for an industrial-grade, date-coded LQFP-100 microcontroller in volume.
Is the LPC2364FBD100K still active and available for new designs?
The LPC2364FBD100K is listed as an active part in the NXP product catalog and continues to be offered by authorized distributors, and it remains suitable for new designs in industrial and communications equipment. Because the LPC2300 series is a long-running ARM7 platform, verify the lifecycle statement on the manufacturer product page at the time of your design review. If a long supply horizon matters, confirm the longevity program status or consider moving to a Cortex-M part such as the STM32F107VCT6 in the same 100-pin LQFP footprint.

Selection Guide

Choose the LPC2364FBD100K when your design needs a 72 MHz ARM7 core with Ethernet, USB and dual CAN, and 128 KB of flash plus 34 KB of SRAM is genuinely enough, because it is the lowest-cost fully equipped member of the LPC2300 family in LQFP-100. Step up to the LPC2365FBD100K, LPC2366FBD100K or LPC2368FBD100K when firmware growth or external memory interfacing is required; all share the same footprint, so no layout change is needed, only a BOM and firmware review. Prefer the STM32F107VCT6 or SAM3X8E for a new Cortex-M design that needs a modern software ecosystem, 12-bit ADC resolution and longer-term roadmap, accepting a complete firmware port. For simple RS-485 or RS-232 nodes with no networking requirement, a smaller 8-bit or Cortex-M0 microcontroller is the more cost-effective choice. Always verify the pin multiplexing of Ethernet, USB and CAN in the exact part you place, since peripheral sharing rules differ between the ARM7 and Cortex-M families.

  • Wider analog capture resolution than the LPC2300 baseline (vs SAM3X8E)

Design Notes

The LPC2364FBD100K is a 100-lead LQFP with a 0.5 mm lead pitch, so the footprint geometry and solder-mask aperture must match the NXP package drawing exactly. Keep the crystal and its load capacitors within about 5 mm of the OSC1 and OSC2 pins and route the oscillator traces away from Ethernet and CAN traces. Provide a solid ground plane under the device and place all decoupling capacitors on the same layer as the pins they serve, with a 100 nF capacitor at each supply pin and bulk capacitance of roughly 10 uF per supply rail close to the group of pins it supports.

The Ethernet MAC needs a controlled-impedance differential pair for the MII or RMII lines and a magnetic-link network close to the connector. Terminate the differential pair with the network specified for your PHY, keep the pair length matched, and route it over a continuous ground plane with no stubs or vias on the pair. The USB differential pair likewise needs matched length and 90 ohm differential impedance, and both USB and Ethernet pairs should be kept away from the switching nodes of any external DC-DC converter feeding the 3.3 V and 2.5 V rails.

The device requires a 3.3 V core supply and dedicated 3.3 V and 2.5 V analog supplies for the Ethernet PHY interface. Sequence these rails so that the analog supplies come up before the core, and respect the maximum ramp-rate and sequencing requirements listed in the manufacturer datasheet. Because the Ethernet PHY interface is sensitive, decouple the 2.5 V analog rail with a ferrite bead or small-resistance resistor plus local 1 uF and 10 uF capacitors, and confirm ripple at the ADC reference pin stays below the 10-bit conversion noise floor your accuracy budget allows.

Two upgrade paths catch designers out. First, moving from the LPC2364 to the LPC2365 or LPC2366 doubles or quadruples flash, and the 128-bit memory interface means the zero wait-state flash cycle count can exceed the original optimum, so re-check the flash wait-state settings and the vector table layout in firmware. Second, moving to a Cortex-M alternative such as the STM32F107VCT6 or SAM3X8E is a firmware port, not a component swap: the GPIO naming, clock tree, vector table, interrupt priorities and DMA request mappings all differ, and the pin multiplexing of the Ethernet, USB and CAN functions must be re-verified against the alternative's datasheet.
