GP3/MCLR/VPP (pin 4) shares the reset and programming-voltage functions. In designs where MCLR is not required, connect it directly to VDD through a 10 kohm pull-up resistor to prevent spurious resets. The CONFIG register bit MCLRE determines whether pin 4 functions as MCLR (reset) or GP3 (digital input). If the MCLR function is disabled, pin 4 becomes a digital input-only pin - freeing it for general use, but programming the OTP device then requires a different programming fixture configuration.
